““At a time when families in Ireland are crippled by the cost of living crisis, and after a budget that gave ordinary workers nothing, this government are proposing that billions of euros are given to Ukraine for weapons of war.

“I’d rather see that money being invested in public services and cost of living supports across the European Union done in buying weapons of war €90 billion delivered for Ukraine with the clear intention that the majority of that funding will be used for military purposes.”

    Yes but why Comrade?

I’m hoping that this is SF trying to exploit some fear and anger rather than what it seems, which is them actually supporting Putin. Such a large party having the latter position in Ireland would be worrying.

Now more than ever, it is vital that Europe stands together and united behind Ukraine 🇺🇦

Left wing loons support Russia as Ukraine is pro NATO

Far be it for Sinn Fein to not know about the struggles of small countries against imperialism

Simon Harris cares more about the war in Ukraine than the living standards of people (all people) who live in Ireland. This is just the truth.

Sinn Fein are acting like the Black and Tans. What a turn around

Imagine how horrifying this must be to hear for Ukrainians here in Ireland. Othered in this way just as casualties hit 2 million just so this horrible toxic man can play to his disgusting base.

These aren’t a serious party of government. They’ll probably play it as anti-war but it’s anti-Ukrainian. You can’t make peace with Russia. The only thing Putin will ever understand is the gun.

    Shameful. Absolutely shameful.

Shouty Pearse and Sinn Féin made real cunts of themselves with this in my opinion.

Mad the tight bastards on here are apparently ok with another however much being sent to Zeldisney .

I’d lean towards SF as just completely sick of the incompetence and waste of FFG but this would seriously turn me off them

  12. It’s the shortsightedness of it all. If Russia defeats Ukraine, it’s not going to stop there. Leaving aside even the moral arguments about helping a smaller country being invaded by a larger neighbour, helping Ukraine defend itself is absolutely in our interest.

I sincerely hope we are doing everything we can to support the Ukrainian people in their existential struggle. Everything we can. Fuck Pearse Doherty.

God forbid we help a country that was attacked, threatened with annexation, had it’s civilian centers and hospitals shelled, and has been under constant pressure for years.

Funny how folks are 100% behind Gaza, but when it’s Ukraine they hem and haw.

There is a massive irony to Sinn Fein not supporting Ukraine when it’s effectively the same situation as Ireland.

Even if you go back to Oliver Cromwell he used the Irish Confederacy letting King Charles II stationing troops on the island as a pretext for invasion.

Especially Sinn Fein up here. I mean having your colonial neighbour completely embedded in your politics and state is something we’ll known by the Irish.

The fact that Ukraine wasn’t even in NATO but wanted to be in the same EU that Ireland has benefitted from all these years. Sinn Fein in the North were a Remain Party, also, when in came to Brexit. So any of this anti-EU sentiment for it being a neoliberal vassal of America is a load of shite.

Fuck these Russian assets. Seriously. You would think they have some sympathy with the underdog fighting against the larger agressor neighbour, but obviously not

  17. BarFamiliar5892 on

Sinn Fein in being a pack of pro-Russian scumbags shocker. Mary Lou has been very quiet lately, but whenever she reemerges I’m sure RT will be happy to have her on again.

I find it interesting the same Kremlin simps who get their nose out of joint at an unknown amount of money given in a group LOAN to Ukraine to aid its survival didnt seem to notice when the same government they’re lambasting for giving away Irish taxpayer money in a “cost of living and housing crisis” GIFTED 49 million no questions asked to the exceptionally corrupt Palestinian Authority. Fellas who are well known to pocket money like that without any ordinary Palestinian ever seeing a penny.

Surely if SF actually cared about Irish taxpayer money being “frivolously” pissed away on other countries, they’d have been raging about FFG showering Palestinians in money?

No?!?!….why not?…unless its not the taxpayer their worried about, not the amount of homes that could be built here with either or both lumps of money or “cost of living” reliefs that could be paid to struggling Irish people tryna make ends meet.

NO, Their faux concern is exposed by the inconsistency of their stance on who Ireland gifts money too or loans it too. If you’re pissed 1 lads getting a loan but not bothered at all about another lad getting a big gift, the moneys not the issue. Its whos getting the help thats their problem & when you’ve to come at the situation like a big sHneek, then you know full well you cant come out and say it without looking bad.

It’s this type of crap that keeps Sinn Fein out of government. Can’t be trusted

  20. EliteDinoPasta on

We’re crying out for an opposition party that can actually unseat FFG, and just when it seems like Sinn Fein have stopped the car from fishtailing and are back on track, they come out with shit like this and before you know it we’re in a ditch.

I’m no logistics expert and I’m not in government, but from my purely uninformed view it seems that many of the country’s issues are legislation-based as much as they are finance-related. We’re a wealthy country, it just seems like everything is constantly bottlenecked by antiquated legislation. Now, that could very well be a smokescreen to distract from the fact that nothing much is being done to resolve key issues. However, I find it hard to believe that we can’t solve our issues at home whilst also contributing to an EU loan for Ukraine.

  21. Delicious_Clue_531 on

I’m going to be honest as an outsider:

For me, Sinn Fein doesn’t seem to actually believe in anti-imperialism. Their continued controversies with Ukraine, like this, paints them to be little more than sheltered hypocrites.

Seriously? They are not taking the side of the invaded nation? Fuck me, that’s pathetic given where they came from themselves
