So it begins. But it’s all just for the children, right?

Anyway, I just might be a Russian/ Chinese bot anyway because I don’t like where the countries of the EU/ EU itself is heading at and am becoming more EU sceptic /s

its never been easier to rent a vps server. it literally only takes a few clicks. all you need then is just run a bash script or just paste in some commands and you will have the server set up as a vpn. great way to get the kids into r/selfhosting though well done france

  3. What enraged me about these demands is that they keep pretending like protecting minors was an objective and not something they try to prevent by all means possible to instrumentalize the argument to restrict more and more personal freedoms.

If they actually wanted to protect children, the solution would be extremely easy: Mandate parents to enable parental control settings when they hive internet capable devices to minors. It is this simple and would be 100 times more effective than anything they constantly speak about. If you fear that parents are too stupid to understand how to activate it, just set up a free info hotline where someone explains it to them. This isn’t rocket science. Verifying age server side will always just work when the service complies with national laws. Verifying it client side will work no matter where the site is hosted.

Let’s be honest: it’s not about minors; it’s simply that all politicians and officials want to control citizens to stay in power. This has already been done in China and Russia. Europe is next.

Say someone has doubts, specifically about von der Leyen and her sincerity regarding the COVID-19 vaccine purchases. Right now, that user is anonymous, and their activity could eventually trigger an investigation.

But without online anonymity, that user could be subjected to countless investigations on various unrelated charges — accusations of hate speech, copyright infringement, data disclosure, etc. Look at Russia, where all political prisoners are charged not with criticizing Putin, but with a broad spectrum of offenses: from pedophilia and tax evasion to financing Ukraine and espionage.

In the end, it’s easier just not to criticize, because such an activist will be identified, their life ruined, and their tragic fate will serve as a lesson to others.

If the kids are smart enough to use a VPN they are also smart enough to use social media.

“Kids” are the fake nose of censors and control freaks.

The VPN are paid with credit card, meaning there is a baked in age check in there

  8. Delusional. I doubt they can. If they start cat and mouse agaisnt vpn providers they’ll just waste their time.

  9. They would need to block the IP ranges of all cloud compute providers, like AWS, GC, Azure, Hetzner, Scaleway, etc. etc. to do this. And even the , there are ways around it. In other words, it’s not going to happen.

    Time to normalize saying :

Yeah, we don’t give a fuck about minors

Children would be better protected if we could manage to keep them away from the rich and the politicians….

  12. No way any of this is legal under EU law. The under 15 ban is already up in the air when it goes to court.

I love how this is just utterly unenforceable short of cutting off the entire internet. Even if mainstream VPNs are blocked, absolutely nothing stops you from renting a server in any other country, setting up something like Tailscale on it, and using it as an internet exit node and boom, you have a VPN. They cannot detect this unless they literally start cutting off the entire internet.

Its always about the children unless you are a billionaire then you can just fly them out to an island and start adoption agencies and non profit foundatioms and ngo to launder it all then its totally fine and legal but vpns yep thats the line we can’t cross

Created by a bunch of politicians who are out of touch with the Internet usage and frankly do not care about the privacy risks, yet believe the will be fine. Fucking great

What about inquiry into minors who were trafficked into the Epstein operations?

  17. Regulating how minors access the internet is necessary, even if the solution isn’t perfect. The goal should be to cover the majority of real-world cases, not to build an unbreakable system. VPNs, for example, don’t need to be banned to be regulated: requiring age verification for consumer VPN services would already add meaningful friction. Kids can bypass almost anything with enough effort, but adding friction works for 70–80% of cases, and that already has a massive impact.

Trying to “regulate algorithms” is close to impossible in practice: they’re opaque, constantly changing, and global. By contrast, requiring legally operating platforms and services to verify the age of their users is straightforward, enforceable, and already supported by existing regulatory frameworks. Focus on regulating access points and accountability of companies, not on chasing perfect technical control that doesn’t exist.

The whole for the children thing was a whatever initially, but now it’s just getting ridiculous. Do not let in the Nazis over kids having internet access
