The problem isn’t just Mandelson, those he worked with need to come under scrutiny as well.

    I know that’s a vain hope but…

Oh, this’ll be good .. it would seem that the “higher up” you are, the more likely the Police will come back with “no case to answer”. I predict that he’ll disappear from political life with a very public and harsh (sounding) castigation and will resurface in Tony Blair’s Institute. Ed Davey asking for a Public Inquiry would further complicate things by slowing everything down to a Hillsborough/Chillcot Inquiry pace.

It looks like the opposition is going to force disclosure on Mandelson’s vetting process, which I strongly suspect could bring down the government. If the security service flagged the Epstein links and Starmer appointed him anyway, that is a massive issue. He is already unpopular.

I also cannot stress enough how politically foolish that appointment was. They took the role away from a career diplomat who already had an excellent working relationship with Trump and gave it to a corrupt politician with no background in diplomacy and a long history of scandals and registrations.

I do not understand how anyone can still argue the appointment made sense. It was simply a factional ally being rewarded. Faction comes before party, every time, from McSweeney to Starmer.

If we are trying to define Starmerism, its political project or guiding principle seems to be nothing more than backing the rightwing neoliberal wing of the Labour Party above all else. He should have grown a spine and been his own man years ago.

Reactive compliance. Their investigation will conclude with no laws were broken and nothing to see. The Elites look after their own.

So now the spotlight is being turned on McSweeney, you might like to and google some of the material compiled by the Corbynites who were ousted about who funded Labour Together. Or, wait no, no, don’t look behind the curtain. It’s all about “the Russians” and an eccentric billionaire.

Realistically the chances of him going to jail for any length of time for this is minimal. In theory it has a maximum of life in prison, but that isn’t happening.

McSweeney will no doubt be the sacrificial lamb but this is a Profumo level scandal. Starmer’s judgment is understandably going to be hugely questioned. Hard to see how he remains after the May locals which are surely going to be a bloodbath

I know it’s just one of them, and nothing good ever happens anymore but the prospect of Peter Mandelson in prison is a wonderful surprise
