Massive increase in fly tipping around our area over the last year or so, I can’t help but think it’s to do with increased waste collection charges.
Council put a barrier at a bog entrance the week before last, it’s already been vandalised by someone trying to open it.
Last week a local land owner had a mattress and bags of rubbish thrown in over his hedge!

I didn’t even think about it when I first moved north but the simplicity of the waste system here is such a weight off my shoulders
Aye it’s included in my rates and I’m not naive to think it’s all being handled appropriately but not having to even think about my bins beyond recycling goes in the blue and everything else in the black is something I’ve come to greatly appreciate
Even the dumps are a pleasure to use. It’s bordering on a day out it’s so convenient

It’s a weird mess of a system – I’m not aware of anywhere else in the world with multiple competing waste companies like this. Seems to have been one of those late stage FF/PD era neoliberal solutions to a problem that we shouldn’t have had in the first place and probably didn’t.

I got a deal for one year, much cheaper than Barna, I guess others will pay more for new customers like me. It might be the same situation like with electricity, jumping between companies every year for new customer deal.

Waste collection, like all essential services, shouldn’t be privatized. Private industry will always push for the least service at the most cost and that’s not acceptable for essentials.

I do hate the way waste companies inform about price increases. Company I’m with write a 500 word essays and at bottom inform you of price changes.

I’d imagine taking bottles away is hurting them
