      I’m surprised with Czechia- they were very pro-EU and literally got richer when they entered EU- they are scared of Russia and saw EU as a protector. They are the richest country of all ex communist countries and yet they now hate EU??

      I’m surprised by east europe, i thought they were much more pro EU than that.
      France is higher than I thought tho. I was expected something like 35-40%

      Can someone explain to me why is the support so low in net beneficiaries like Romania, Bulgaria and Poland? EU membership has been such a great deal for them, don’t they like getting our money?

      I m shocked for my country, Greece.
      When I was growing up, in the 90s/early 2000s, the European Union had universal support from the people here (with the exception of a 4-5% of the communist party, but even they weren’t fanatics against EU).
      All this pariah treatment that the union reserved for us during 10s – because we screwed up our finances to a certain extent – the vengeful fury to punish us so that we and the other countries would learn their lesson, left a mark on us.

      The union should not do to any other country what it did to Greece (remember they shut our ATMs before the referendum in order to vote what Brussels wanted, we said fcuk you, but Alexis fooled us all <3 ).

      You cant destroy a society in order to send some messages. You cant play with people’s life. 

      And even today, so many years after that, nobody apologised, only IMF kind of said we were wrong  on the extend of the measures we took etc.

      Fcuk, you made me Eurosceptic again -_-

      Idk how accurate this data is. I have not met a single person that isnt thankful we somehow managed to get in. There is not a single relevant political party that isnt completely pro EU.

      Ironically it’s about 62% of Britons who’d rather be in the EU these days too.

      How does the GDP map look like? If the richer countries like europe more, does that mean the union helps the already rich countries more as well?

      I never understood why any of these Eastern European countries are not +90% support for eu. Can someone from these countries enlighten me? I understand different cultural backgrounds etc. but after all aren’t they are in much better shape with EU than without it?

      I would say “Together we are stronger” is pretty engrained in the spanish culture, even if it fails in politics.

      I’ve always though that’s why we are better in team sports and our best athletes shine specially at playmaking and teamwork.

      We may not believe in it firmly, but we believe in staying together.

      There’s a lot of blaming the EU on things that were always purely domestic competencies – you see that a lot in Europe and it was core to why Brexit happened.

      It’s a useful scapegoat for failed domestic politics and a useful boogie man too. Even here in Ireland you’ll see bureaucratic responses blaming EU regulations, or EU market rules etc when it’s things they just don’t want to do. And it’s usually a very specific interpretation of them … I remember for example an Irish city council concluding that you couldn’t open a book of condolence because of GDPR…

      Am I imagining, or does this look just like the map of net payers/recipients? I find it crazy the net payers seem happier with EU than the recipients.

      I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that the most EU sceptic nations probably benefit the most from the EU.

      I guess majority is dissatisfied with the political decision not on the union itself. I believe everyone born on european soil is very proud of their own country and of this union.

      What happens in the EU is actually a bit a different topic. Unclear border policies, Spain approving 500.000 immigrants, immigrant businesses backed by companies or untrustworthy politicians.

      My 2 cents having lived in 3 states of the EU.

      Probably similar figure also now in my home the UK… Huge majority who voted to leave are now dead (old age) and none of us young people thought Brexit was a good idea!!

      Austria wtf? I mean we have a wannabe Orban here doing populist shit but whaaaa? As someone who lives in Austria it bowls my blood seeing ppl who thinks we would be better off without the EU.

      This can’t be right for Greece. It’s 50% and more for sure

      In the past few elections in Greece, the poll results have been abnormally off. 2023 election polls, even 10 days before the election day, were extremely off. We’re talking about something like Poll result: ND 31,5 and SYRIZA 25,5 End result: ND 41 and SYRIZA 20. It’s an insane difference by any standard

      Eurobarometer seems to be using a similar method to polling companies here so I wouldn’t be too confident that the results are accurate. It seems that people from certain ideological backgrounds are less likely to respond to polling companies

      I’m happy to see the Spanish results. At my school we even have a (while elective, highly chosen) subject that’s all about the EU and particularly the benefits the youth can yield from it. Sad to see the low percentages in the East though!
