    It’s time to wash it guys. One could probably write a dissertation on changing coal quality during the Industrial Revolution in Germany by taking samples from different spots on the facade.

    Or… backlight all windows with red light.

    Little known fact: When this church was completed in 1880 it was actually the highest building in the world at 157m. It is still one of the hightest buildings in the world with the load-bearing parts made of stone.

    I remember seeing it for the first time when I was a teen. It was so massive that it was kind of intimidating standing close to it and just looking up. But they definitely need to do something about how dirty it looks if possible lol

  4. you can’t just wash it, it needs sandblasting. Costly but it really would bring it the detail and divinity of the building rather than it looking all gothic and sinister.

    When I first saw Kölner Dom, it was from a train window, heading into Hauptbahnhof Köln. It looked like the train was heading into the church itself. A very impressive building…

    Konrad Fon Honstaden, at the tower of the Ratthaus has an interesting statue representing his spirit animal underneath him.
