Sì, capisco l’argomentazione dell’agricoltore. Sì, capisco che la caccia alla volpe è una tradizione "sport" a molti e sono consapevole che è così in qualche modo divertente e profondamente radicato nella cultura britannica e irlandese. Ma per l’amor di Dio, fermati. Rimaniamo inorriditi quando i leader governativi di culti sistematici (presumibilmente) sacrificano bambini in rituali demoniaci, ma quando un animale muore senza motivo (se ce n’era uno per cominciare), non diciamo nulla. L’uomo è ricco quando vive con la Terra, non su di essa. Una volta che vedrai e apprenderai la verità su come appare realmente il mondo fuori, nel sottosuolo e sotto le correnti oceaniche, e su come deve adattarsi a causa del nostro impatto, tutto ciò che vorrai fare è proteggerlo.
Presumo che anche qualsiasi persona perbene qui non sia d’accordo con la sconfitta del divieto sulla legge sulla caccia alla volpe, e siamo abbastanza intelligenti da sapere perché una cosa del genere è accaduta. Ma immagino che sto semplicemente contattando tutti qui, cosa possiamo fare affinché ci riconsiderino? Le volpi non sono l’unica specie pregiata della nostra isola, ma sono gli ultimi dei nostri cani selvatici. Abbiamo già massacrato un’altra specie canina molti anni fa, dobbiamo davvero continuare a torturare inutili? Faccio una donazione più che posso a varie organizzazioni per la protezione degli animali e a programmi di rewilding degli alberi, ma ci sono così tanti fattori che bloccano tale progresso che non posso fare a meno di pensare che siano pochi quelli che vogliono davvero vedere gli esseri umani armonizzare il loro rapporto con gli animali.

Show videos of foxes being killed by hunts in the mainstream and social media. I’m sure there was a similar approach used when other countries banned fox hunting, might even be videos available.
The 3 main parties on the country arent for it.
And for the vast majority of the population its just not an election issue.
So unless you can convince a large amount of the population to make it an election issue, and an issue in favour of banning it, then you dont have a chance really.
Make the Fox a national symbol of Ireland.

I am someone who loves foxes. I have never liked fox hunting as a sport. However, I do wish to raise a rather serious question with regards to a total ban of hunting or killing foxes which the bill will enact:
-As the fox does not have any natural predators other than Man, how will we cope with an inevitable population boom in the wake of the complete stoppage of fox hunting/killing/culling?
-Urban fox populations are already an issue, since they move to where the food is. People also feed them because they’re cute which only encourages them to stay near human habitation for food.
-Cats are also the largest cause for death of songbirds, small mammals and other such native populations and are a much larger threat to the upset of balance to the balance of local wildlife than a few fox huntersare every season, but we don’t really hear about the damage domestic cats cause as much with regards to this sort of subject matter.
I know I’m going to get pushback on this but this has been on my mind since the bill came out, since it bans *all* killing of foxes. There is no thought in what may happen in the future regarding an inevitable population boom.

I mean fox hunting is a needlessly cruel form of population control, and should be banned outright, but, presumably you’d have to replace it with another form of population control or the farmers would lose their fucking minds… Not to mention in the current political climate it strikes me as a difficult sell with regard to order of importance, unfortunately. 🤷♂️

Protest in numbers.
Put the same kind of imagery on the photos that the anti-choice crowd put on theirs. Shocking, violent images.
Make it a *voting* issue.
There’s only one way that would work. Make it illegal to hunt foxes on horseback and with hounds. But still allow farmers to control fox numbers on their land if they are killing lambs or poultry.
The whole defence against the ban was that farmers and people with poultry would not be able to legally defend their livestock. And that’s why the ban didn’t get through.
Farmers hate the fox hunts also. They leave gates open, knock walls, trample grass that will be saved for silage or hay, and the dogs often worry livestock. Many also don’t ask farmers permission to enter the land. They just trespass on whatever land they wish.
If the ban appeases the farmers, it will get through because it will have no defence other than predator control, and it doesn’t really do that effectively as a bullet kills a fox instantly. Foxes who die in hunts take hours to die as they run for hours until they are eventually caught and torn to bits by the hounds.
That’s how you’d pass the bill, and I can not understand why it wasn’t like that in the first place. There’s 135,000 active farmers in Ireland, yet they generate over 16 billion euro for the Irish economy. If there’s a bill being passed that will affect their livelihoods, we must do it in a way that it will not affect them badly.
What, you’re gonna stop foxes from hunting.
All we need is a serious TD to table a serious motion and not back of a fag packet motions cynically designed to fail…Then there is every chance. The vast majority of farmers just want to protect their livestock. Perhaps if a modicum of respect and understanding was given to their views you’d get a serious response.
You know the absolutely horrific RSA ads that used to run on tv? Someone needs to make on of those for this issue and then it needs to be EVERYWHERE on social media, enough that at least one or two of the reputable (loosely) news platforms take notice and report on it. Send it to you TD, inundate as many government officials with it as possible. Don’t let it be forgotten.
Generating outrage, for whatever reason people want to be outraged by such footage, is definitely *an* answer to this problem but, as with everything in this country, it’s going to take time and continued effort from the lay-people to achieve any meaningful results.

The recent vote in the Dail was pretty unanimous in favour of allowing it continue. Changing the mindset of rural TDs could be a hard sell for anyone. In the UK where it was banned, it still continues using loopholes in the law
