I would like to see this alongside the cost of existence in a chart

Presumably this is skewed somewhat by some of the tech companies? Seems very high to me

Good to finally see a proper figure instead of the nonsense 41k or whatever that gets bandied about

Next time a Brit is having a go about twee little Ireland , just quote Harry Enflied back at him – “We are considerably richer than you”

None of this means anything without comparative cost of living, I think a discussion needs to start about removing the minimum wage and of course be taxed less.

For small business’ labour is growing to 50% of costs @ €14.15 an hour (not including 10 days sick pay & auto enrollment, if I’ve calculated right that’s averaging €16.75)

It’s a different time with an influx of unskilled and zero English speaking potential work force. This group want to work but little incentive exists for employers to hire.
People may white knight and argue how are they supposed to afford but I think that’s a seperate discussion on whether minimum wage is a right and I don’t believe this is the general opinion of people who want to work to build a better life.

Small business’ can’t keep up with competitors that are replacing staff with machines (eg self check out).

It’s controversial but this is the quickest way to see significant drop in cost of living, Increase employment rates and reduce dependence on benefits and actually promote integration.

Edit: Denmark has no legal minimum wage, yet has the 4th highest average salary.

Wonder what’s the median salary. Average salary is a pretty useless metric.

Thought Switzerland would be higher given lower tax regime and much higher living costs.

An average salary of €61k tells me exactly one thing: income disparity is through the roof. There are plenty of people earning €70–100k, and far more earning nowhere near it. The average just masks that gap. I can see this in my own social circles. Friends on gaga salaries – absolutely stunned when I tell them other people are earning below 40k.

Is it really that hard to believe that this is average? Everyone here is looking for a reason to make it look like 61k is a fortune

Everyone acting like 60k is an insane number, a secondary school teacher makes that after 10 years and much earlier if they pick up a few extras like tutor etc.

If you take out the large multinational companies from the average it drops to about 35-45k which is about the average for a regular irish person don’t mind that 60k nonsense.

The wages of those companies are about 30 to 40% higher than most domestic companies.

Compare what a teacher, a guard and postman get in the first year with other countries. That will give you a better idea.

That’s how you can tell that Czechia is Eastern Europe
