Who trusts Trump and co not to signal to the likes of Meta and Google, to fire up the algos a bit in favor of their allies in Europe?

The US cannot be trusted, ever again.

  2. So a Cuban dictatorship is bad and should be overthrown but Orban is a good dictator that deserves a visit by the Secretary of State?

Hungarians have no clue who Marco Rubio is. Orbán is so pathetically desperate. 61 days until elections

  4. Visit two of the poorest countries in Europe and piss off all the richest and post powerful ones… How does that even make sense, if their goal is to make “America great”? These people are so dumb!

  5. Unreliable-Expert on

I think at least 98% of Hungarians don’t even know who Rubio is, so his visit will have no effect on the upcoming election.

    The new indicator.
If Trump or his croonies support it,,,,, then it is best to avoid it.

  7. I hope that man loses so Hungary is free. It’s good to see that the polls show orban is losing

Reverse Midas touch effect coming in fast.

Hopefully the Magas will do the same over and over again, with all their beloved candidates and they will wreck them all

  9. Little marco rubio, the consummate “i got mine now fuck you” republican.

What a sycophantic piece of shit that guy is.

Oh so basically they interfere with foreign affairs, which directly proves Europe’s point about foreign interferences in voting processes across the union, to then accuse Europe of undermining democracy.

It’s clear as day the US is hand in hand with Russia, they’re not hiding it at all anymore. I am just sorry the people who somehow still support slugs like Orban will feel legitimized even more by the US supporting their local dictator.

I am trying to see a way out of this but I am really really struggling to see any diplomatic one left.

Reason 4,549 to cut ourselves completely off from the US. I love that they give us such good, clear reason.

**US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel next week to Hungary and Slovakia after President Donald Trump publicly endorsed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a right-wing ally who is trailing in polls ahead of April elections, the State Department said on Monday.**

US Secretary of State [Marco Rubio](https://www.france24.com/en/tag/marco-rubio/) will travel next week to Hungary, the State Department said Monday, after President [Donald Trump](https://www.france24.com/en/tag/donald-trump/) endorsed its right-wing leader [Viktor Orban](https://www.france24.com/en/tag/viktor-orban/), who is trailing in polls ahead of April elections.

Rubio will travel to Hungary and Slovakia, also led by a right-wing ally of Trump, after addressing the Munich Security Conference, where last year Vice President [JD Vance](https://www.france24.com/en/tag/jd-vance/) berated the European Union and championed the continent’s [far-right](https://www.france24.com/en/tag/far-right/).

The trip comes as tensions again rise between the United States and the European Union after Trump mused about seizing Greenland from Denmark, a NATO ally.

In Budapest on Sunday and Monday, Rubio “will meet with key Hungarian officials to bolster our shared bilateral and regional interests, including our commitment to peace processes to resolve global conflicts and to the US-Hungary energy partnership”, State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said.

Orban is the rare [European Union](https://www.france24.com/en/tag/european-union/) leader to enjoy warm relations with Russian President [Vladimir Putin](https://www.france24.com/en/tag/vladimir-putin/) and has often resisted EU initiatives to support Ukraine.

Orban had planned a summit last year between Trump and Putin which was scrapped as US officials became convinced that [Russia](https://www.france24.com/en/tag/russia/) was unlikely to compromise on [Ukraine](https://www.france24.com/en/tag/ukraine/).

Last week Trump endorsed Orban in a social-media posting, calling the European Union’s longest-serving national leader “a true friend, fighter, and WINNER.”

But Orban is facing an unprecedented challenge in his quest for a fifth straight term on April 12, with polls showing him trailing the party of Peter Magyar, a former government insider turned critic.

Orban became a hero to many Trump supporters for his hostility to migration during the Syrian refugee crisis a decade ago.

US’s only policy nowadays is to destabilize EU. Like all in. I started to appreciate more our enemies than this perverse “ally”.

  14. churiositas on

this is probably some sort of punishment. Trump won’t come, because he will not back the loser, but he will also not back this winner (Orbán’s current challenger)

Prolly Rubio did something to Trump which is why Trump is making him eat this L.

  15. american scums at their attempt to destabilize the world like always

  16. If Orban wins that election despite the opposition’s clear lead, it will be a sign that global authoritarian organizations and companies have enough power that getting rid of their corruption after they get a puppet in place is next to impossible. Do not let them get it anywhere else in Europe. And to Hungarians, best of luck, and be vigilant
