That’s fine, but couldn’t we also make it an incentive for stuff that’s actually urgently needed, like construction to build some fecking houses.

Hiring mercenary’s are we from the third world? How we better than Russia that strap mines to foreigners they recruited. An Irish army that has no loyalty to Ireland is worthless in a real war

Couldnt make conditions or pay better to encourage our own people to join so just ship in immigrants instead. Good to see the public sector finally following the private sector.

It could potentially work if it was less than 5-10% and limited to that but if your army is 50% people who left their country because they didnt like the living conditions I cant see them being willing to stick around and die for ireland if shit does hit the fan.

If I was a bad actor I’d be laughing my ass off sending my chaps over to join the military.

Like how would this work? Would someone have to apply for a visa to join to our military directly from their home, non-EU country? That seems like an unbelievably bad idea.

The Defence Forces are getting over 10,000 applications a year cause the pay and benefits are pretty good now. The problem is they don’t have the capacity onboard more than a 1,000 a year and it takes too long to get through the security vetting process. The Government doesn’t need to offer more incentives to recruit people – it needs to focus on making sure the infrastructure and support is in place to speed up the recruitment process and increase the capacity to train more of them

Femi from Mogadishu is really going to put up a good fight for us if shit hits the fan

2 – 3 years before the fast-tracked version? Ireland will make a great little military recruitment center.

I don’t think our government understands the concept of self-preservation – like, why have a military at all? Are they seriously this stupid?

Often in here we speak of people integrating and now we have one avenue here with the military. The security checks once comprehensive should be fine. On the subject of attracting people to the army who are Irish, as pointed out the pay is considered decent. Overall I see it as a positive.

  10. So let’s train people from outside our country to be organised, fit, and handle and have access to weapons. What a great idea !

At every turn, the governments of Europe appear to make the wrong decision. Every day it gets harder and harder to criticise the conspiracy theorists

Well supposedly we do have a lot of military/fighting aged men here that are unvetted. We could vet them as part of this process

No money in the world would make me join the military fuck that noise, at the end of the day why are normal folk always on the front lines and not the actual politicians who have the issues.

In the actual Department of Defence Plan published on Tuesday the idea of citizenship for service was not actioned but put under “further evaluation” so nothing will happen until after 2028.

It’s bad enough that we give citizenship to the likes of Des from Tampa whose grandfather left Ireland in 1900 at the age of three weeks. Loads of terrible people join the army, it’s not a measure of good character. Citizenship should mean something.
