The Indo’s really going to town on this poor fella.

    Absolute rag.

  2. SEND-MARS-ROVER-PICS on

Oh are we doing the thing where you comb through someone’s life to retroactively justify poor treatment?

  3. Can the Irish authorities now look at extraditing him to Ireland?

If so… I’m sure the US authorities would be glad to.

ICE aren’t (I hope) randomly picking up people. Is it known why he’s being detained?

  4. JapaneseJohnnyVegas on

Am still waiting for the big reveal that they supported trump and think immigration is a problem.

  5. throwawaypsql on

Look it, they’re right to deport him.

However, the way they are deporting him and thousands of others is barbaric.

  6. Accomplished_Spell97 on

Doubt he disclosed an active bench warrent when applying for an ESTA or a work permit in the USA. Its an automatic rejection on that end. ICE are rotten, drugs laws are too harsh on end user, he probably wasnt a dealer(*i might be very wrong on that one) but he fled the country instead of fighting the distribution charge, facts are facts. Hes not getting out and he’s probably getting arrested here on arrival.

  7. I’d say the Irish Government will want to distance themselves from this now.

Seamus Culleton has also reportedly gone to the second level of the biscuit tin before the top layer of biscuits were finished ….

  9. HybridizedPanda on

    – Possibly dealing of drugs (why would you have 25 yokes out and about)
    – 2 counts of criminal damage
    – not showing up for either court dates
    – overstaying a 90 day visa by 20 years

It seems he’s built a profile of skirting laws, and avoiding responsibility, I wonder what else he has got away with. Now those are 20 years ago for those offenses, but none of this would have been brought up if he didn’t try to make himself into such an innocent little thing and publicize it widely. It’s quite literally his own doing.

  10. The lad needs to start planning for a new life in Ireland. His USA life is coming to an end.

We are all great at posting judgments from our desks, but we are not locked up in a detention centre. circumstances are currently tough for him and particularly going to create challenges for his wife.

However there are others who had to resettle following deportation so I can be done.

  11. Wow 25 yokes such a danger and reason to be detained by ICE and held in a cell for months lmao, i swallowed more on a weekend back in the early 00s i don’t see what this post is trying to prove at all

This guy is giving Irish illegals some bad PR. This guy is the definition of why ICE are carrying out their role. Absconded to avoid drug dealing charges whilst overstaying a 90 day visa by nearly 20 years. No sympathy.

  13. seppuku_related on

So the timeline appears to be:

    – caught with drugs in Ireland
    – didn’t show up to court
    – travels to USA on 90 Day Visa
    – overstays Visa
    – gets caught by ice
    – refuses offer to be returned to Ireland

He abandoned a woman he impregnated as well. Salt of the earth!

Booze, yokes, dissin’ the law, birds a-go-go…

Did he used to be one of them *Hardy Bucks* lads..?

  16. Complex_Hunter35 on

Regardless of what he did or did not do in Ireland, the treatment of him and others by ICE is deserving of contempt. He should be allowed to address his immigration status through the legal channels where required. What I do find bemusing is the people here defending the position that it doesnt matter if he has a drug conviction are the same people who would be baying for blood if this was a person of colour in Ireland. The double standards at play is astounding. Roll on the downvotes….

  17. Elarisbee on

Wait..does he still have an outstanding warrant in Ireland then?

His lawyer said he was about to get a green card – that he could walk into any immigration office in the US, and walk out with one. Wouldn’t they check for a criminal record or outstanding warrant when applying for a green card?

This is becoming such a weird case the more it goes on. What’s the next twist?

  18. rockafellerskank95 on

Surely should get a long sentence if he returns to Ireland? Running away from the law for 17 years

  19. JohnjoM8 on

Ah The Irish Independent……classy publication, complete objectivity in all they publish.
The fact that he did something 17yrs ago and overstayed his tourist visa means that everything that is happening to him now is completely justified …..that’s what we have been told to tell you.

  20. PatienceNo1911 on

The question is did he lie or omit this from his visa or work permits, I would think so. That’s a fed offence.

  21. hannomuhlbacher on

I love the character assassination. Is he in detention for 25 MDMA tablets?

  22. Key-Half1655 on

Thought it was a bit suss when the family said on radio he had no convictions in the US and paused before answering not in Ireland when asked about here specifically.

  23. RomfordWellington on

A character assassination is all this is.

Cancelling someone like this is just nasty. His mental health is probably already in the toilet, not knowing what to do – and crap like this gets dug up from decades ago.

Apropos of nothing – we should be moving to a place where possession for small amounts of MDMA etc is decriminalised, or at least handled in an environment away from the courts.

There’s zero point in ruining someone’s travel and work prospects because they’re caught with a few party favours.

Tablets? Very 90s. The kids these days are all on the crystals.

  25. LordyIHopeThereIsPie on

Tale as old as time for an “undocumented” Irish person with a sob story.

  26. LedgeLord210 on

It’s as if there was always more to the eye in this story since the beginning…
