    ……. That’s a lot of money.

God I’d love that for the price of a minor inconvenience

    >They had eventually just made their flight but their week-long holiday had been impacted by the incident.

50 minutes AND they made their flight. They hardly thought they were going to die. This country incentivizes fraud at this stage.

Ailbhe (aged 9 at the time), had suffered significant distress as a result of the incident……..

Give me a fkn break. State of the nation at its finest.

Handy money if you can get it.

    “Significant distress”.

    Significant distress my bollox.

Yeh well I took a shite at terminal 1 and there was no toilet paper so had to waddle my way to the next stall when the coast was clear. Where’s my compensation for that distressing moment

  6. ibadlyneedhelp on

I genuinely think psychological distress is often overlooked as grounds for compensation in lots of situations, both in terms of monetary compensation and just consideration in general.

This is absolutely not one of them, get out ta fuck.

at this stage I’d consider fabricating some distress type situations myself to cash in on it. I thought initially ah look the poor guys missed their flight and week in the sun and all that, and that’s a bollocks. BUT THEY FUCKING MADE THEIR FLIGHT. Horseshit!!

Might be controversial here, but I don’t think it’s an extravagant award.
I’m sure it was very stressful

I would happily stay in there for much longer than that for that amount of money!

Am I reading this right that they’ve already got an additional €14k for the same incident?

“The court heard that Ailbhe, a student, was now aged 13 and her brothers were now nine and six, both of whom had settlement offers of €7,000 each ruled earlier by a judge in the District Court.”

It wouldn’t be a fun experience, but fuck me, people have no shame.

WTF. The country is plucked. I’ll spend a week in there for that.

I had a very distressful shit in the same toilet can I also have some money please

If this happened to me, it would be a hilarious anecdote I’d tell at literally every mention of an airport in my presence for the next 4-5 years.

    Greedy bastards.

I know what I’m doing this weekend.

    Legal system needs massive reform.

  15. BleedingGumsmurfy on

I interpreted this as 21k was the price for the locksmith to call-out and let them out of the bathroom.

Honestly it’s not that much money for the level of stress it would clearly cause. Divided by 4 for each of them.

I imagine the kids were being annoying little fuckers crying thinking they’d miss their holiday.

On my way to airport right now. Haven’t even got a flight booked. Wish me luck. Brought a kindle too.

  18. It is probably a bit high but awards like this are often just as much punitive as they are compensatory. Getting locked in anywhere that you can’t escape is a serious hazard that could have turned out much worse than this. Awards like this should be used to incentivise the culprit to make sure things like this don’t happen again.

If my parents sued every time we got trapped in the lifts in the flats we lived in in the 90s we’d be millionaires by now.

To be fair that did actually traumatise my sister who is absolutely terrified of lifts which was a nuisance when I lived in London as that counted the tube out

  20. Ob1s_dark_side on

I’m distressed by judges’sentences for crime and ridiculous compensation awards. Where’s my compo?

  21. Murky-Front-9977 on

I read that as 35k compensation. 22k for the eldest girl, and 7k for each of the other 2 children?

  22. mostly_sarcastic on

€21K to participate in an Escape Room? Sign me up!

  23. Donkey-Haughty on

They were so distressed they continued on their holiday as normal as they didn’t miss their flight

  24. littlp80 on

This is disgusting. You know how much is ‘awarded’ for a wrongful death? 35k to be divided between family members.

  25. speedloafer on

For 99% of the country that would be a funny story and nothing else.

  26. no-signage-6588 on

Scumbags! I hope their neighbours are laughing at them behind their backs at the very least.

  27. witnessmenow on

The amount of money seems like an awful lot, but people saying that it wouldn’t be stressful is mental. 3 children under 10 stuck in a cubicle for nearly an hour while they could hear their names being called out would 100% be incredibly stressful. I have two kids similarly ages to the older 2 and they would be freaking out in the same scenario.

Now saying that.. I don’t think if be going to a solicitor about it…

  28. Some people are just looking for any fucking excuse to make a claim. Shameless.

  29. Same_Ambassador_5780 on

I can only imagine the parent making minimal effort to actually get help! All the while thinking, “I’ll milk this and sue the f*** out of them.”

  30. squiremoore1 on

Why depraved animal would lock €21k destined for a family in a bathroom for 50 minutes?

  31. Sweetpeachgames on

By the 10 minute mark I’d have climbed over the door and gone on my way
