Don’t get me wrong the deemed disposal is a disgrace but the fact you cannot offset losses from other investments against ETF is also a huge disadvantage to passive investing.

I’m just worried the Dutch introducing a new annual tax on unrealised gains will give them ideas!

In concept I agree with deemed disposal; it prevents rich people from avoiding paying tax here by borrowing against their unrealised gains.
But; it’s hurts the 99%. The solution is simple imo, apply a tax free allowance like they have for CGT (which also should be increased!) to at least €20,000/ year (think ISA in the UK)

There’s talks of a “strategy”. We don’t need any strategies – we need deemed disposal dropped and the government to get out of the way. The market already offers solutions for investors, most notably on apps like Revolut. This is just a makework scheme by civil servants.
