You know you have a problem when the people you are expecting to do the work to protect you don’t want to show up for work

  2. Well, what else would happen if you put a bases in a shit location. While Vilnius and Kaunas aren’t far away from both bases, those bases are still remote enough so that both the soldier and their family cant really go there that often.

And well, which western European wants to live in the rural Lithuanian countryside for multiple years? Especially when the partner of the soldier had a job that they cant take with them, for them moving to Lithuania basically means either ending their relationship or that their partner now cant work anymore.

Really, the base should have been permanent like it currently is, but the troop side should have been on like 6 month rotations instead of that being the actual home base of the unit. Then soldiers wouldn’t need to take their family, and experiencing shit conditions is easier when it is just for a few months compared to potentially the majority of your military career.

At the end the military can still man the base, it just needs to order the soldiers to do it instead of hoping for enough volunteers.

Title is a bit misleading – in reality the German army couldn’t find enough *volunteers* to *permanently relocate* to the new base. So now they will just order soldiers there – other armies don’t even bother to ask for volunteers first…
