    When German spies start gathering secret information about the U.S., they probably shouldn’t appoint someone named Zimmermann as their chief and send him telegrams.

    Kind of an interesting pattern with the looming decay of US influence that countries are revisiting their legal framework which is heavily influenced by the post war order. Japan is also set to remove some of the US-driven restrictions in national security.

  4. Given the ambiguity of the future sharing of intelligence, it is natural that Germany try to build its own intelligence capacity. The bigger question is whether Germany can strike a balance between security needs and civil liberties.
