Gotta love it! Eastern Europe should buy only EU weapons, while the West is free to buy whatever. We, as well as Poland, got a dressing down for buying american weapons (in our case planes we bought before Trumps first term), but EU deluxe gets to do what they want.
What if I tell you that this been Luftwaffes plan/preference for a long time? Germany loves to do incremental orders and now they have the funds. Air force needs to replace the Tornado IDS strike variant urgently. 35 jets simply aren’t enough, not with jets needed for operations, training, maintenance and the nuclear sharing role. In addition the SEAD-variant Tornado ECR will be replaced with Eurofighter EK.

Why did germany and France decide to collaborate in the first place .I know both are looking for a multi-role fighter but France has a navy and Germany doesn’t,so requirements must be different. On the other hand SAAB would be a better partner for Germany, Dassault Aviation has enough money from the sales of Rafale to develop 6th gen fighter.
