Oltre 7mila colombiani difendono l’Ucraina. Vedi i commenti!

Today I visited one of the hospitals to see my wounded brother-in-arms. In his room I met two Colombians being treated for frostbite. Unfortunately, they don’t really speak our language, so communication was difficult. But one thing is clear – they deserve support and respect. They are far from home, standing with us.

Get ready this post is packed with info!

There are over 7,000 Colombians defending Ukraine. Thousands of volunteers from Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Chile, etc have also joined. Latin Americans are BY FAR the largest group of foreigners here.

They have challenges that some other foreigners don’t have. They mostly come from very warm climates. They arrive without winter gear. They are not used to being in the cold and tend to need the warmest gear. (We still only had one Canadian ever ask for warm clothes). However Colombians tend to come to Ukraine without extra money. It is very common for them to deploy without getting their first paycheck. Affording gloves, warmers or other basic essentials might be impossible. So far I have not observed any Latin Americans getting properly equipped with all winter gear they need for a winter of this intensity.

This group of Colombians did get help! Protect a Volunteer purchased a set of wool thermals and warm socks for each arrival. We also had extra help because some awesome donors have sent extra supplies including uniforms, boots, fleece jackets, socks, navigational equipment, etc. They are thrilled to receive everything.

Most of what you see here was sent by Americans who gave us their old equipment. If you are American it is now MUCH EASIER to send packages to Ukraine. If you go to UPS, you can now send direct to a Nova Poshta address in Ukraine. Nova Poshta is amazing and reliable. This makes it much easier and cheaper for us to receive packages here.

If you have any of the following equipment, it might help Ukraine. Contact us at [tech@protectavolunteer.com](mailto:tech@protectavolunteer.com) and say what you have and where it is. If we can accept it we will give you shipping information. PLEASE be patient for any updates as shipping can be unpredictable and when things arrive we need to organize and distribute; that is more time consuming than it sounds.

    We can accept the following:

Tech: laptops, tablets, PC computers, gaming systems, batteries, drone batteries, power banks, monitors. If not on this list still ask and tell us what it is.

Camping gear: water filters, sleeping bags, multi-tools, camping knives, thermos, cutlery, sleeping mats, camelbaks

Cold weather gear: (in green, brown, or camo only) hats, neck warmers, balaclavas, gloves, thermal sets, coats, pants, fleece jackets, boots, socks

If you have something else you think might work, still let us know what it is. We can accept used equipment as long as it is clean and in working condition.
