Im no fan of Leo but eulogising that lad is just in poor taste. Theres lots of times the shinners let the mask slips that they’re still not done praising the IRA which is beyond sick.

I love Leo since he left politics. Where was this before?

Great to see all the historical context and understanding being displayed in this post by folk who didn’t fucking live in the north during a dirty war.Â

Love that this sub for the most part is actually not condoning terrorist acts. Regardless of whether you lived in the North or not, terrorists are terrorists, no matter what side they’re on.

The irony she’s using the term ‘comrade’ here is fucking wild given their recent stance on funding for Ukraine.

There was alot of things done in the struggle for irish freedom that were war crimes and also many things happened in the period dubbed the troubles but they happened on both sides and if you think that a war crime was committed you should bring it to the appropriate war court not an ordinary court.
Also, on Bik McFarlane, it is misleading to just mention him being jailed and not mentioning what else he did.

The IRA are often judged in a vacuum by people who espouse terrorism but are fine with glossing over violence and atrocities committed when they are committed by those in a state uniform. But as time goes on I’ve become a bit disillusioned with the dressing up of what a lot of the IRA done, and the idea that every member was a hero or freedom fighter in spite of the heinous things they done. I grew up in a *very* Republican family, the stuff about “not everything that was done was right” has always felt a bit of a cop out if you are still upholding the people who done these things as heroes. If McFarlane was anything but Irish we’d all think fuck him, he was involved in the murder of civilians and directly shot 3 himself, he deserves nothing but to rot. But he’s a hero because he done it for the IRA and Ireland

Never heard him hold the British up to the same standards. But he is a West Brit afterall.
