Prime Video is self regulated and showed me a film rated 16 yet had a penis featured in it.

They need to slow down or they will run out of things to regulate or ban next month

For those who didn’t read the article, it would appear that this new regulation is basically that OFCOM can accept and investigate broadcast complaints against streamers like they do traditional TV.
For example, complaints will have been made regarding the BBC’s handling of John Davidson’s tic at the BAFTA or breaches of impartiality for news broadcasts like GBNews received about Farage presenting the news.
All seems pretty reasonable and merely an update to the pre-existing system to keep up with technological advancements. The only issue I can foresee is how say YouTube or Twitch, platforms reliant on user’s self-broadcasting, may/may not be handled in future but it doesn’t seem they are part of this (for now at least).
Edit: Further on in the article it clarifies that platforms like YouTube and Twitch won’t be subject to this.

I hate this weird puritanical moral panic early 2000’s views on videogames adjacent stuff
And I hate that Labour deem it so much more important than young people being able to afford houses or children not dying avoidable deaths from healthcare failures or resolving the cost of living crisis

Ofcom tried to go after 4Chan and failed when 4Chan told them to go to hell and that they had no power if 4Chan just refused to pay their fines so now Ofcom is lashing out angrily trying to exercise it’s imaginary power by threatening different platforms to prevent other platforms trying to get the revolutionary idea of just refusing to comply with Ofcom and Starmers government

I’d rather the CMA look into these things tbh.
Amazon buys MGM..
Amazon creates a double sub for watching MGM.. that you need Amazon sub for.
It’s a cartel.
A sub within a sub.
There are so many of these platforms now I’ve lost track.
Remember when people used to cry about Sky and Virgin bloating prices.
The full top packages from them, are far cheaper with fibre etc. than subbing to all these platforms now. And most of them aren’t producing enough content to actually warrant maintaining a continuous subscription to them.

Are people upset by this? ATM streamers can report the most dubious shit as fact in docs and promote literal scams with almost no checks

Great, so will I need to hand over my ID to some other shady 3rd party to use the service I pay for?
“It’s to protect the children!”
Fuck off, no it’s not. It’s just another blatant attempt at data harvesting.
This country has been plagued by pedophiles for years, the government never gave a shit when Andy or Jimmy was off diddling every child they could. Nor about the other millions of cases we hear about all the time.
It’s all about data and control, always has been.

Yet GB News have politicians spitting propaganda and Ofcom do fuck all about it. What a joke of a regulator.

All this will do is hamper creativity in the media industry. Just look at what happened to the comic book industry in the US and compare it to the Japanese manga industry that didn’t have so many restrictions.

So many easy PR wins for opposition right now. And considering the opposition, that’s saying something.

I think Ofcom needs to be investigated for misuse of power.
