      Weirdly I thought he was arrested because there’s evidence he was passing confidential government documents to a known paedophile.

      The advantage of arresting someone is the suspect cannot simply walk out whenever they like.

      It did seem strange to arrest him late afternoon. Was there specific intelligence of him plotting to leave perhaps?

      Meaning it’s possible Mandelson was trying to flee to somewhere without an extradition treaty.

      People are naive if they think this wasn’t planned to the absolute most minor of detials. They will have held multiple planning meetings, made checks with legal departments and the cps, probably even hired barristers BEFORE the arrest took place.

      This isn’t a cop locking somebody up for drunk and disorderly… This is something they know they will be criticised and challenged about.
