I read somewhere that it was Cork people that thought Jamacans how to speak English, which gave them the accent. Don’t know how true it is, but makes sense!

  2. Anyone have the link to that video of the Jamaican island that has cork accent, there’s karma whoring to be had.

That’s about 25 minutes of content for Blindboy now.

The slave myth is just that. They where indenture slaves as where many of the pilgrims of Jamestown. Not to mention they where then slave owners as in chatal soon after again as with Jamestown. Its layer out correctly on the Internet.

    >He told Newstalk: “I’m really proud of being from Cork, and for anyone trying to make fun of someone for being from Cork… they don’t get it. We love being from Cork.”

This is one of the most Cork statements I’ve ever seen. In all fairness though, I don’t think they’re making fun. The Cork accent isn’t the most stereotypical Irish accent people come across abroad so it’s probably just surprising to hear a similar accent to their own.

Any non-twitter link to the video? I wanna share with my Jamaican friends but don’t want to send them to musk’s site

    >In the speech, Gould was criticising the Government over the housing crisis.

    >He told Newstalk: “I’m really proud of being from Cork, and for anyone trying to make fun of someone for being from Cork… they don’t get it. We love being from Cork.”

An excellent quote given by the man after, reminds me of a Tommy Tiernan bit

Watch the radharc clip on YouTube where the priest goes to monserrat and interviews the locals. He says their accent could be mistaken for west cork

Tbh there seems to be as many Jamaicans in the comments saying the accents sound nothing alike

To me there is a very slight resemblance but it’s being a bit overblown. There’s a closer resemblance to some accents in the north and the American accent than this imo

From Cork originally (but working in Dublin now) and have always felt a huge affinity with Jamaica due to how similar the accent is to the Cork accent – even when I was a kid I thought this.

Big love to Jamaica 🇯🇲 💛

How is this news to people? The Irish connection to the British West Indies is well-documented. The African slaves learnt how to speak English from Irish and Scottish indentured servants. Even a lot of Caribbean celebrities like Rihanna and Bob Marley can trace some of their lineage back to Ireland
