The guards imagining all the overtime

Insanity to play the game here instead of a neutral venue. The Israelis will be looking to make a scene, and there will be plenty of Irish looking to do likewise. Why go ahead with somethings that will be a guaranteed riot? There’ll be skirmishes and bomb threats and the Israeli government will love it all.

EDIT: The gardaí stopping away fans like the police did for the game in Birmingham would be best solution.

It’s not the first time the FAI let the country down

The best we can hope for is something visible in terms of protest. Either a fan boycott or a mass walkout. The walkout might have more impact.

  5. TeoKajLibroj on

Surely this is going to be nothing but trouble. There’ll need to be a huge Garda presence to keep protesters and Israeli fans seperate.

Very suprised this isn’t being played in a neutral venue. Will be a bit of shitshow surely

It will be interesting to see what players make themselves available for the game

We’ll get ourselves into a huff and puff over this and probably lose.

  9. The game should not be played at all unless Israel stop committing genocide. The FAI don’t get to disgrace us on the world stage by playing a game against a country actively committing genocide. This cannot be allowed to happen. Its outrageous.

Can the FAI escape fines if security is the issue on which matches are called off? Is this their plan?

Go protest outside the Israeli embassy if you feel strongly. leave the politics out of football. I don’t want our qualification hopes for future tournaments hampered over this. boycotting won’t achieve anything aside from us getting in trouble.

You saw what happened with Eurovision … they placed Israeli interests above the likes of Spain, the Netherlands, and Ireland.

We’ll only end up punished while nothing changes.

This is crazy tbh. The Israelis have been making trouble everywhere they go and then trying to play the victim, so fully expect the same to happen here and the Guards won’t have any idea how to deal with it. Sure enough Irish citizens will be thrown under the bus in the aftermath of whatever happens.

Someone in the Dept of Foreign Affairs who oversees Sports and Cultural Atypical Work Scheme Permits has the opportunity to do something really funny

Can we organise that us all wear either black, white, green or red and chant Free Free Palestine for 90 mins? I feel so powerless as this genocide is going on and I feel that a lot of Israel/Israelis will at least see this

Welcome party for their fans at the airport perhaps?? 👀🍀

We could have a double header and play Russia on the Wednesday with the winners playing Saudi Arabia.

I remember being at the match the last time Ireland played Israel at home in 2007. There was a protest then. When the team bus passed it, a few idiots started doing Nazi salutes.

It’s a pity Ireland and the other countries in the group didn’t stick together and refuse to play. I don’t see why Ireland is being singled out so much. I also think after the last two Ireland games how much people got behind the team and the country was buzzing in a way I’ve not seen for years that this is a real pity

Disgraceful that this is going ahead. Genuine question, is their Prime Minister allowed to travel and spectate, or will he be arrested on the warrant of the ICC for war crimes?

  20. Complex_Hunter35 on

There is going to be a lot of Palestinian solidarity so the Israelis better be prepared for a welcome of that sort. I find it unbelievable that we are going to entertain a genocidal nation. Only today 2/3 of every journalist killed was by Israel. Lack of spine fromFAI

  21. EconomyCauliflower43 on

Ars we boycotting the World Cup too? Pentagon is now paying for the new engines of Israel tanks. Doesn’t seem to be too much difference between the regimes only more of an inconvenience to boycott the states.

  22. ThreeTreesForTheePls on

All it is going to take is one nut job to attack someone in an Israeli jersey for Ireland to become international news.

I can already see the rhetoric, the actual pro Palestine protestors being used as article banners, and then far right crack pots praising the assault, allowing for a “people on Twitter are saying” energy, then poof, ireland is not safe for jewish people and should be considered a threat to any Israelis coming here, with full US approved bullshit.

God what an absolute fucking nightmare to its core this event is going to be. And in the end, nobody is winner here, no matter the score, no matter the crowd chants. It shouldn’t been boycott from the start, but football is sacred and the FAI view the world through the € sign, so fuck it all.

  23. PNscreen on

I’m personally of the opinion that sports shouldn’t be politicised. Don’t really think countries should be banned from playing etc.

People just not going or going with Palestine flags would send a stronger message than the match not being played IMO
