      As egregious as a case like this can get, and only nine years. The sentencing is shocking. System needs serious reform. I hope the victim is able to recover.

      Breaking into someone’s home, Rape, Threatening and then attempting to flee and they solicitor said they had a lot of alcohol at the time of the incident. 9 years isnt long enough

      Hopefully he is terrorised in prison for the duration and then deported.

      9 years. People get more for drugs. Should have gotten 20 years. 9 years in actual prison time is 6 years and 9 months due to a quarter remission.

      Did he play first team for Atletico Miniero or was he a youth player there? I see no info on him when I google him, football wise. Why have they put that football tag on him as if he was a somebody in soccer? Doesn’t look like he made a name for himself in the game. This is his legacy in life now the animal.

      Awful rape. Hope DPP appeal the sentence as its just too short. The oral rape aswell as doing a video is beyond words.
      Hope there’s a special place in hell for him

      Fucking hell. Judges really do try to use anything as a mitigating factor.

      It won’t be long before they’ll accept “He had a well ironed shirt” or “His watch was showing the correct time” or “He makes a nice lasagne” as mitigating factors.

      The “justice system” in Ireland is a fucking joke. And not a funny one. It’s horrendous.

      Hopefully she’ll keep getting the help she needs. And hopefully he has the life he deserves.

      Does anyone know if the jury can recommend the sentence imposed?. I just say a video of a case in America where the jury recommended 65 years for sex crimes. Should we have something like it here?.

      Gonna be annoying-querier here, but is the reason the judicial system *appears* to always give low or suspended sentences to do with the lack of prison space? As in, are they aware of the system constraints, and does that factor in?

      It shouldn’t, but it appears to be. Wasn’t the last prison built like 25 years ago? I get there’d probably be massive objections to a prison in any area, but the govt really need to pull the trigger on this for the greater good.

      Can somebody with an understanding of Irish law explain why these sentences are so low? What boundaries does the judge need to abide by, what’s the maximum sentence for sexual assault etc? 

      I cant imagine a worse case than this for a random attack rape. Breaking in to her home with a weapon, threats to kill, video taping, 2 hours, pre meditation as he had his bags packed to leave, surely these all add up to a longer sentence. 

      Also not to feed into the right wing narrative…but what the hell was he doing in Ireland. He didnt have a word of English and had to use google translate to threaten her. Was it a student visa? Cos it cant have been critical skills or asylum.

      He’ll have a cushy 9 years in an irish prison. Deport him to Brazil and request his sentence be in one of their prisons. See how tough he really is.
