Well that’s horrifying
How do they define “free” exactly? About 2 years ago my cousin’s uncle got blown up during a hunt, and the area was deemed safe from mines before.
Yeah, next stop: Ukraine.

Fun fact, Belgium as of 2026 still finds explosives and bombs on a regular basis from WORLD WAR 1.

If Belgium still finds tons and tons of explosives from a war more than a century ago, I would be careful to make a statement about Croatia being “mine-free”
I heard Verdun battlefield is so messed up from WW1 that there are areas still not useable since 1918. So use this as a benchmark on worst case scenario.
