It’s price gouging – below is from another article

Peter Burke has confirmed he has engaged with the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) and asked them to urgently investigate claims from citizens who have raised significant concerns around price gouging.

“I am encouraging members of the pubic to contact the CCPC via ask@ccpc.ie or via their helpline at 01 402 5555 in relation to recent increases in home heating oil and fuel. I am assured by the CCPC that these complaints will be carefully and urgently assessed,”

The CCPC can impose fines of up €10 million in certain circumstances of breaches, or 10% of a company’s turnover.

    Insane!
Ireland is becoming like Denmark, where every single thing you buy has to really sting you in the wallet so you can contemplate and feel guilty for the damage you’re doing to the environment by simply existing

It takes several weeks to months for oil transported refined and then transported again until eventually it gets to the petrol pump. The ripple effect of the war with Iran shouldn’t rightly affect prices for weeks so it is obvious price gauging

If the retailers can’t be trusted, they should have to submitted at pump prices forecasted ahead of time when they are purchasing their fuel, batch X bought for Y, sold at pump for Z and so on.

We immediately see increases, but it takes months to see decreases at the point of sale.

I’m not a fan of over regulation like the above, but maybe even the threat of imposing this would change their behaviour

  6. 1.95 in Castlerea today. I got petrol on Sunday for 176.
    Cunts.

It’ going to go way over that. My local has gone up twice in the last few days. The current oil industry disruption is worse that what it was at the start of the Ukraine war. If this latest war goes on much longer we could be in a real crisis beyond anything any of us have seen before.

If the price of crude oil goes uo today, how long does it take for that crude oil to be turned into refined petrol and transported to ireland and fill the petrol stations tank?
    Hours apparently.

Strange, as when the government lowered tax when the Ukraine war kicked off to give people reliefs, we were told they couldnt pass on the savings straight away as they paid the tax on their current reserves already, and there was lag time.

Both things cant be true at once.

Looks like I’ll finally have to use the eco button on my car

It will go well over €2 a litre I’d say more like €2.50 I’d say and the gouging already is rife

This war is going to go on for years not weeks Iran will never surrender, this will be much worse then the Iraq war, trump and Israel terrorists have no idea what they started

A good time to remind everyone that although this isn’t the fault of bus and lorry drivers, or motorists for that matter, fuel prices dont affect completely electrified public transport (and rail freight) systems running on 100% renewables. There is an answer to this but will FFG try for it? Will they fuck. Vote anyone even vaguely left-leaning greens, Soc dems, SF, PBP-S, the fucking Irish Communist Party if you have to, anyone who has the slightest chance of reducing this country’s reliance on road transport. I am begging you.
