If the EU wants to stay functional, it needs members that respect the same democratic rules.

Creating two tier membership is a disasterous strategic move.

  3. Remember, before 2022 it was Hungary AND Poland that took turns in bending the bloc over. UK at some point got tired of bending EU that it started bending itself. We had PIIGS that were scapegoats and with rise of nationalism across EU who knows which other country will be the next “root of all evil”.

Orban will soon be kicked out of Hungary, but the precedent for imposing restrictions will have been set.

It will then be forced on other small countries under one pretext or another.

That’s how, under the cover of good intentions, a two-speed Europe will be built.

And later, leveraging the disenfranchised votes of the small states, EU bureaucrats will move to curb even major countries like Italy and Spain.
In the end, only France and Germany might keep their full veto power in the new EU; the rest will be severely limited or lose it altogether.

     Nice plan, von der Leyen.
