We are only getting started. If this war drags on prices will go way higher. There hasn’t been this much disruption to the oil and gas industry since the 1970s. We are likely to see an unprecedented rise in prices. I won’t be surprised if prices hit €3 a liter.

    Its nothing but price gouging.

They have reserves bought before a shot was fired but see this as an excuse to up prices now.

When the price of oil comes down you will hear all about reserves as the reason you need to pay higher prices for a few weeks or months before they can lower them.

It’s impossible for a sizable portion of the country not to boycott fuel retailers given how necessary a car is for existence in most of the country.

You can however choose to buy fuel only. Forego the high margin coffees, drinks, snacks, deli etc. since most will claim they make little on fuel hit em on the higher margin impulse purchases

People prefer to be angry at alleged “price gouging” because it puts the blame on someone rather than having to accept the uncomfortable reality that their world and economic wellbeing are built on wafer thin foundations that are entirely outside of their, or indeed this country’s control.

The answer is more renewables, more insulation and energy efficiency, better public transport, better regional and more community development, shorter commutes, and more cycling and walking.

Welcome to the EU, this is where we have sanctions on Russian oil which has zero impact on Russia and 100% impact on citizens of Ireland fuel prices. But hey at least we can claim the moral high ground, even if it means we have empty pockets.
