Ciao a tutti,
Ho 23 anni e sono venuto di recente in Slovenia. Lavoro qui in un ristorante cinese e mi sento intrappolato e impotente.
Quando sono arrivato, ero spaventato e solo. Non conoscevo la lingua né il sistema e non avevo nessuno che mi aiutasse. Ma le persone e i paesaggi qui sono bellissimi e questo mi ha dato un po’ di coraggio.
Il ristorante in cui lavoro è molto duro. Lavoro circa 13 ore al giorno. Mi sveglio molto presto e lavoro ininterrottamente fino a tarda notte. La maggior parte dei miei compiti sono i lavori più sporchi e pesanti – spostare oggetti pesanti, pulire, lavare – e non esiste una vera protezione per la mia sicurezza.
Quando sono arrivato per la prima volta, mi sono ferito gravemente alla mano. La ferita era grande, ma dovevo continuare a lavorare. A volte piangevo in silenzio mentre lavoravo, sperando solo che la ferita guarisse. Ora le mie mani sono coperte di cicatrici.
La parte peggiore è che il mio capo continua a dire che non sto facendo abbastanza. Non importa quanto lavoro, non è mai abbastanza per lui.
E adesso mi ha preso la carta di soggiorno. Ha paura che parta per un altro lavoro, quindi si rifiuta di restituirlo. Mi sento completamente intrappolato. Non so quale sia l’orario normale di lavoro nei ristoranti sloveni e non conosco i miei diritti.
A causa dei miei orari, ho solo circa due ore di notte per usare il telefono. Riesco a malapena a comunicare o a cercare aiuto.
Lo condivido perché spero che nessun altro debba sperimentare questa paura e questa impotenza. Se qualcuno sa come funziona la legislazione sul lavoro in Slovenia, o se avete consigli per qualcuno nella mia situazione, per favore aiutatemi.

At last call the police and tell them everything. They should help you.
Thats defenetliy not normal to work 13hours every day.. I saw one teen chinese guy who was working here same as you like alot of hours and he quit job for searching for another one. Normal here is 8 hours of work. I would really like to help you but I dont know how to help in this situation. Hope u will find better solution. U really deserve better

What’s illegal:
* Working hours + overtime exceeds max 56h/week.
* Your employer cannot confiscate your residence permit.
* Possibly other health and work violations (hand bruising, mobbing, heavy lifting)
What you need to do as soon as possible is to describe your situation to at least one of the contacts above. You don’t need to bother with writing a long email, you can just copypaste what you’ve written here in English or link them the Reddit thread.
I sincerely and urgently recommend at least contacting Delavska svetovalnica: they’re specialised in exactly this sort of thing with foreigners employed in inhumane conditions and they will absolutely assist you and help you figure out how to change your employer while keeping your residentship. They’ll also contact other organizations to help you relocate away from your boss and get you settled elsewhere, so you won’t have to fear of any reprisals from your boss.
Do not contact the police or government Inspectorate until you’ve consulted Delavska svetovalnica, at the very least. They will help you report this to government agencies once your situation is at least somewhat resolved, so the employer can’t take it out on you. Good luck!

I can’t add anything more than others have already suggested, but when this whole thing is over, and you are safe, please post the name of the restuarant so I make sure to never visit it.
