Why does the career of the bystander who did the right thing matter? Poor journalism again.
People in any career and who are not in paid employment for whatever reason, retired etc can also do the right thing.

Article is sparse on relevant details. Did the kids involved confirm any assault? The article only mentions that he patted the boys and hugged them. Certainly weird, inappropriate and a massive red flag, but I feel like I’m missing something in the story.
(Not in any way defending this creep, but trying to figure out what he was charged with exactly).

It’s not like these boys were teenagers with a bit of cop on and could go places on their own. These are practically infants.
Don’t let your infant children on Snapchat. Don’t let them have unsupervised Internet access. Don’t let strangers take them swimming, or in fact anyone that isn’t a parent/guardian or with very trusted schoolteachers.
We’re going to have such a stunted generation emerging. Not much love or contact with their parents but unlimited chances to cross paths with dodgy paedophiles, while the tech companies make bucket loads from it.
