Europe is trying to walk a tightrope here. On one hand it wants to push the green transition, but on the other hand energy prices have become so high that heavy industries like steel, chemicals and manufacturing are struggling to compete with the US and China.If those industries start relocating, Europe doesn’t just lose jobs — it also loses the ability to produce key materials domestically. So these “bridge” measures look less like abandoning climate policy and more like buying time until renewable energy and grid capacity actually bring prices down.
