UK Government proving that, once again, if you really, really want to get rid of someone, you can just crush their body with your car and take a brief hit of a few months behind bars before being given your freedom and your license back.

What’s insane about this case is that it’s not strictly true that she was killed on a zebra crossing. She was killed *on the pavement waiting for the traffic to stop by a zebra crossing*. She was NOT on the road according to the article, and the driver was “showing off” weaving around while uninsured too, and hit and killed her.

A fucking 16 month sentence for killing a child who was following the rules of the crossing properly is a joke. No wonder people often just hop over zebras now without stopping when they’re supposed to. The penalty for killing someone is so minor it might as well not exist.

Wow, I’m super understanding when it comes to criminal justice and always look to see the big picture in sentencing but even I’m shocked at this small sentence for dangerous driving resulting in a death.

In America he’d get about 30 years, our justice system is a complete joke.

  5. Where’s the number of comments typing “usual suspect”?

Or do they no longer care now that the perpetrator is white?

I dont think anyone would blame the parents if they lost control of their vehicle whilst he was crossing the road.

    >West had been “showing off” at the wheel, driving between 32- 43mph and moving the car from side to side

    >16 month sentence

Sentencing for vehicle related deaths in this country are so inconsistent. This guy is messing around and driving like an idiot and only gets 16 month [but the driver the other day gets 8 years when the judge agreed it was a complete accident?](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cze0xr9g5lno)

  8. I don’t have a strong opinion on the custodial sentence, but I don’t understand the opposition to length driving bans.

2 years is not nearly enough here. Driving is a privilege not a right, and he has done nothing to show he should be trusted with that privilege again in just 2 years time.

Once again proving that if you want to kill someone in the UK, the most effective way is by using your own car. The lack of enforcement of existing laws as well as lack of consequences in sentencing really does show that a person’s unimpeded right to drive is put above human life.
There needs to be some serious reconsideration about how driving law is enforced and the consequences of irresponsible driving.

    > West was sentenced for causing death by careless driving,

So whilst showing off they strike a pedestrian on the pavement and that’s merely “carelessly”? Crazy how high the bar for “dangerous driving” is here.

    > He was also disqualified from driving for two years and eight months.

Aside from getting a much longer sentence they should never be allowed to drive again.

I would expect a 9-10 year sentence for this. Should be manslaughter

Tell you what, if I ever get in trouble I want this cunt’s barrister.

Um. I was just scrolling and accidentally gave this post an award. How silly. I don’t know how to undo this. Sorry weird one for this to happen on.

Bear in mind the justice secretary seems to think serving a 3 year jail sentence has the same impact as a skinned knee.

Soft touch Britain. I’d say what penalty I’d call for but Reddit says I’m not allowed to. 🙄

He served 6 and a half months for killing someone. That’s a fucking joke.
