So they cloned her phone and then just blanket handed the data over to the defendant?
At best thats sheer laziness and incompetence, at its worse its sheer malice from this police force.

Wow, this is ridiculous, I get not wanting to fine a public body huge sums of money (it’s just taxpayer money going around in a circle) but surely there are individuals who fucked up and should face consequences. It’s either monumental negligence or intentional, but either way it seriously undermines the willingness of future staff to feel like they can report sexual abuse. Whoever made those decisions should be fired, at a minimum.
Why do you need the *accuser’s* phone in a rape case anyway? They will surely be happy to voluntarily share relevant information.
