      Yeah of course, the UK is not a federation. The Scottish and Welsh assemblies exist via act of Parliament.

      Terrible, giving money to places to fix things. The title makes it sound like he’s doing something horrible, the reality seems to be a bit different.

      They’re upset because Westminster isn’t giving the money to the devolved government’s so that they can decide whether to spend it on a town or not or spaff it up the wall like they usually do.

      Speaking as someone from Scotland, it would be fucking mad if the leader of the entire country wasn’t able to invest or spend money.

      i mean they always could , most things are legislated for in Westminster , hell NI at is controlled by Westminster

      It’s always a tricky job to balance national and local interests when it comes to decentralisation. 

      What’s weird to me is how in the memo concessions to devolved governments are treated basically like negotiating with terrorists, I mean I kinda understood by now that devolvement in the UK is mostly a dumpster fire and an half-assed, halfhearted attempt at decentralisation but still, yikes

      For those wanging on in here about the UK Government can spend where it likes etc etc, you are jut as bad as the scenario outlined in the leak.

      The UK Government either respects devolved competencies and lines of delineation or it does not, its pretty simple.

      And for the record, I dont have any issues with the UK Government spending money in Scotland, I am Scottish, but doing it outwith their scope to simply unsurp the Scottish Government is simply political shit-housing.

      As they should. The SNP in Scotland can’t be trusted not to use everything as a point of grievance at the expense of the Scottish people. Best to bypass them to help the country.
