A couple of years would be enough to be fair. He’s not going to learn anything new after the first year.

These little a scrotes who go around at night interfering with people’s property and getting away with it because we have no fuckin law in this country need to understand there are consequences. This lad fucked with the wrong person that night.

Wonder how lenient the court would have been if he didnt try to hide his altercation with the theif previously.

That article makes it seem the like the victim was completely innocent in this shitty situation.

I think that’s too long. 3 year would have sent a message to homeowners that catching a robber is not a licence to kill.

But what’s more important is the message to robbers that they are fucking scummers who should be afraid to go into anyone’s property and rob things.

The sentence has to weigh these up and also serve society. And this one is using up a prison space for someone who over reacted and deserves a punishment, but not that long of one.

Ah sure, “well-loved member of a family” who breaks into other people’s cars. Says a lot about that family values.

Overall it looks like two lowlifes found each other.

What in the actual fuck is this justice. Dude stabs a thief and gets 9 years??? He should have gotten an award instead. And do I read correctly, the thieves family standing outside the court sobbing for the thief??

Sounds like all involved were scum. The family of Mr Ronan trying to paint him as a “life of the party” sob story is also pathetic.

Breaking into a workman’s van isn’t petty thievery, it’s a direct attack on someone’s livelihood and ability to provide for their family. But of course stabbing someone is excessive force, just take a bat instead.

So they can disable people on their scramblers, stab people for defending themselves, rob houses, steal cars, sell drugs and they’ll all get suspended sentences or under two years. Man defends his property to the unfortunate end of life of the robber, and he gets a decade?

But rich the family constantly calling him a coward in their statement no talk of stealing tools from a man trying to earn a living.

Before you all start wanking yourselves silly with your vigilante fantasies, the convicted is also a notorious “scrote” (r/Ireland’s favourite word yet no-one seems to use it in real life).

    > Murphy has 31 previous convictions, including five previous convictions for possession of knives and other articles between 2010 and 2013.

    > The judge said Mr Ronan did not use any force or threaten any force against Murphy.

Looking at it with common sense, it was clearly over the top and overkill to drive a knife into someone’s heart over this.

    >Mr Ronan’s father, Stephen Packenham, said outside court that the family did not accept the manslaughter verdict. He said they believed the system was flawed

I too agree that the system is flawed.

But not in the way that the thiefs father believes it is flawed.

Ronan took his life into his own hands when he actively took the decision to go and steal from people.

If he had not decided to go out and commit criminal acts he would still be alive.

Young fella was a little robbing scumbag. Unfortunately he picked the wrong car that night and upset an absolute psycho. There’s a moral in there somewhere.

  14. jackoirl on

I’ve absolutely no sympathy for someone who dies because they’re trying to rob someone.

He died because he was a scumbag.

Your only legal option when someone is breaking into your van and then running off with your bank card is to call the guards who’ll send someone around in the morning to take a note in a little book and never contact you again.
