He needs a few more gold ornaments from TK Maxx.

We could have at least gifted him one of those 1980s gold boxes everyone used to have at the side of their fireplace.

    2. 1993blah on

Toed the line well, showed more backbone than Mertz without going too far.

    3. Temporary_Sell3384 on

I think it’s pretty embarrassing that the goal is to sit as small as possible in the Oval Office as the President and Secretary of State discuss their war in Iran and propose an invasion of Cuba.

    4. I thought he did very well, just as he did last year

He ate a certain amount of shit which is too be expected but he pushed back on Trump’s bollocks not once but twice which is not usual for these type of things, particularly not from the leader of such a small country

Going by the comments, I’m once again glad that half the posters here don’t vote or god forbid, run for office

    5. Entire-Gas-7651 on

Seemed more eager to jump in to defend Starmer than our president (or even correct her gender at least?) but I suppose that should be no surprise.

Martin’s comments on the Iran essentially provided additional justification for an illegal attack. If you say “everyone accepts that you cannot have a rogue state with a nuclear weapon” and that Iran is “a sponsor of terrorism” you are providing consent for this war. He was poor on this.

Jesus Trump is fairly blowing smoke up our arse now

    7. Vegetable-Cod7668 on

saying trump was doing his part for peace in gaza was disgusting and shameful considering what the yanks have done

    8. You can’t be picking a fight with the biggest maniac in the world.

Not a fan of Martin but he only had one choice here.

Holly Cairns was unfair in her criticism she has lost some credit in my eyes.

    9. KeyboardWarrior90210 on

He did well – it’s a fucking hopeless assignment so the best he could do is try to avoid setting off too many landmines, and he did that pretty well as you’d expect from an experienced cute hoor

    10. Pushed back on Trumps nonsense more than other leaders of much larger nations. Fair play considering it’s an annual nightmare situation.

    11. Any_Comparison_3716 on

He did the best he could have done.

      That was a manic situation.

    12. bulbispire on

Did well in my book, like last year. Didn’t bend over but didn’t piss anyone off, got a few good words in for the EU and the Brits as well.  His innate ability to talk while saying absolutely nothing helps him with Trump, leaves him nothing to latch on to.

    13. pheeelco on

I think he did very well.
Took some guts to shut Trump up when he was in full flight and disagree with him. MM made a good case for immigration and for Europe.

And he spoke up for the Iranian people and for peace.

Not bad when you consider how other leaders frequently tip-toe around Trump, or Starmer who maintains a cringe-worthy grovel at all times.

And, I should make clear, I am by no means a Fianna Fáil supporter. Just giving credit where it’s due.

    14. Did very well, I wish he was representing us instead of Harris next time.

    15. LouisWu_ on

Better than I expected he would. Actually voiced a couple of opinions on Trump’s nonsense about Europe at least.

    17. windysheprdhenderson on

Fair play to the guy, having to deal with this orange fuckwit in front of the entire world.

    18. Ok_Personality6148 on

Shite but it wasn’t about us so he got away with it.

    19. Key_Duck_6293 on

He was there to ensure that Trump didn’t get pissed off with Ireland & pass some dumb policy, to achieve that you just have to turn up and stay relatively quiet. We could have sent any random Irish lad in his 60s and Trump would have been none the wiser

    20. Single_Classroom_448 on

I’m a brit and haven’t read any of the news except what has popped up in my Reddit feed but I’d like to thank you guys for bigging us up when Trump started slagging off the UK government, love you guys and hope everything went well

    21. IntrepidAstronaut863 on

He did well, keeps a very important relationship alive. Thought he showed more backbone than some other leaders.

In moments like this I’m grateful it’s him doing it and not Soc dems or others on the left who from their comments today would rather we nuke the economy for the sake of some grandstanding.

    22. NeoTravel on

He did very well in fairness. Defended our allies across the Irish Sea, Europe and kept steady. Couldn’t ask for more to be honest. I think European leaders are wise now to not simply want to “survive” a trump encounter, but rather counter him when he says some crazy shit.

    23. Hes-behind-you on

I was kind of hoping Micheàl would have just got up, Van Damme 80s style and broken the big orange neck before ripping his shirt off and escaping in a helicopter.

    24. jonathannzirl on

His experience as a teacher dealing with the class gowl’s showed

The man is a diplomat. Fair play to him. Wait for all the moaners back home who dont have a clue what diplomacy requires.

    26. SeriesDowntown5947 on

Trump prob ordered two data centers and a power stations. So il expect to hear about this and news for the tech bros next week. As trump dosnt like waiting. Thats what happens when you rely on US multinationals.

    27. Such_Baker8707 on

The Yanks haven’t started bombing us yet so I’d say he did alright.

    28. Educational-Law-8169 on

Credit where it’s due, he did well. No one would want to do it, you can see the expression on other world leader’s faces sometimes. It must be like walking into the lion’s den

    29. Real-Basis-4153 on

Did trump refer to President Connolly as a he? Or did I mis-hear? 🤣

    30. Diligent-Main-3960 on

He wasn’t that bad apart from his comments on Churchill

    31. Top-Leadership-8839 on

I think he did well, he expressed his governments opinions and came across very cool headed in the face of a tyrant who is known for blasting anyone with a conflicting view to his.
I must say i was surprised with the Kier Starmer endorsement but on reflection they are our closest neighbours and IE UK trade and relations are important so well done him.

    32. mmoran92 on

He did a great job — we’re lucky to have him. If Mary Lou had been representing us, it would have been a disaster. Whether people like to admit it or not, the US pays a large portion of our taxes. Until we have a new economic model, we need to go over there and “kiss the ring.” What I liked about Michael is that he did it with dignity. I also really appreciated his interjection about Keir Starmer, in particular — speaking positively about him as well. Emma Little Pengelly also a classy operator. Very well done overall; it’s not easy stuff.

    33. Active_Remove1617 on

His hunched over appearance was awful. I’d expect a better sense of present from the leader of the nation. As to what he actually said, I have no beef with that.

    34. blipblopthrowawayz on

The state of that room gets worse every time I see it, what a tasteless abomination.

    35. Byrnzillionaire on

He did as best that he could, just like last time, He’s dealing with an emotionally unstable narcissist toddler, you simply have to pander to him, for now.

Anyone who says he should have not gone or said X,Y and Z is an idiot in all honesty and doesn’t understand politics, soft power or how the real world works. Sinn Fein will be all over that tomorrow I’m sure but there opposition, that’s their job too.

    36. Low_Interview_5769 on

Curious what people expect MM to actually do.

Ireland have and need a great relationship with USA, why would he rock the boat exactly.

Not a single party wouldnt meet Trump were they in charge

    37. Actual_Material1597 on

Just two more of this BS to go, smile, laugh at his jokes, don’t say anything stupid and get the feck out of there ar nos na gaoithe, job done

    38. Pretty good. While my 60 year old self would far prefer if he ripped Trump for the childish imbecile that he is, the potential ramifications for younger generations would be unconsciousable.
