The Panorama edit was monumentally stupid and I’m amazed it got past multiple pairs of eyes to get broadcast. Especially stupid, because he did in fact say all those things, telling people to march to the Capitol (claiming he’d be with them), fight hell like and all that, and so the whiplash edit was completely unnecessary.
However, this is a man who is a pro at misdirection and finger pointing. Whenever he is under any heat or scrutiny, he’ll immediately provide a diversion. He has no qualms about lying, so claims that things he is on the record as saying are AI generated might be transparently false, but it’s enough to sow the seeds of suspicion. And now, whenever he says something outrageous that he gets called out on, there will be at least some people just dismissing it as AI, which is a rot that will spread. He never has to provide any evidence of his own, or make specific accusations over which things he is calling out as false. He can just keep it vague ‘I didn’t say those “pretty bad things”‘, so there’s no way for media outlets to defend or refute. On the rare occasion he does get pushback from a journalist at a press conference, he’ll resort to insults and again, more misdirection.
The state of things. Intellectually and morally empty. And still, a significant proportion of people just don’t care.
Trump, Graham, Hegseth and others in the criminal cabal known as the US Government can’t seem to make up their minds as to whether they’ve won or whether they want or need help. Their stance seems to change by the day, if not by the hour.
