With the missiles in question being a patriot air defense system*

This remains one of Turkiyes more ridiculous complaints. The idea that Greece’s treaty commitments to a third party give Ankara the right to complain here is flatly at odds with their insistence that UNCLOS cannot impose obligations on them as a non-signatory, and the deployment is clearly perfectly reasonable in light of Karpathos’ position and the ongoing conflict.

Complaining about absolutely everything is one of those strategies I never understand. All it does is dilute the complaints that are reasonable.

I love how 3 ballistic missiles were shot down in their airspace, all reportedly intercepted by NATO powers (because surprise surpise the Russian s400 missiles they’ve got are shit), and yet their main concern is NATO defense systems being deployed “near” their borders

Why is Turkey complaining about their NATO ally protecting them both by deploying defensive weapons? Turkey should be thankful; Greece is protecting their flank in case of attack by their joint enemies. Complaining makes no sense.

Unless Turkey wants to attack Greece. Then, it makes sense.

What is illegal under international law are the Turkish F-16s in the illegally occupied territories of Cyprus and not the anti-aircraft systems on the Greek island of Karpathos.

Why is arming the islands absurd? Because this area is already within Turkey’s defense systems, and if an attack comes from anywhere in the east, it has to pass through Turkish airspace.

If this is done by considering Turkey as a threat, then anything within 50 km of the Turkish coast is a target for artillery fire; none of them would survive the first minute of any conflict. And even if they somehow survive and somehow stop Turkish missiles, etc., how will logistical support and ammunition be provided?

In short, a lot of money is being spent on something completely meaningless, and in addition to providing arguments against Turkey, the islands are being turned into a legitimate military target.

that epic post which is being shared every week even if there is nothing.

we complained once, two weeks ago and it’s done. but it doesn’t matter because greek media will share it every single day repeatedly to get clicks.

I don’t think it is a big issue for Turkey. But they have to raise objection, otherwise it sets a precedent for further militarization in the agean. I mean these systems on these islands are just sitting ducks anyway, its more of a symbolic objection
