They will give the minimum needed to hold off the hauliers from going nuts, price at the pumps will fall slightly until trump bombs energy infrastructure in Iran and Iran retaliates by targeting oil fields and we’re back to paying 2.50 a litre for diesel

This is a short term measure. The State needs to wean itself off fossil fuels. We need to shield ourselves from stupidity in the Middle East. Wind farms, solar – we need to go all in. I would love to see the government increase the solar panel grant tomorrow, for example. Or reduce VAT on EVs. We need to think long term.

This is a simple solution to prevent price raises by the garages taking the difference.
Get a receipt, submit to revenue and get a refund or tax credit.

It’ll be interesting to see if there will be measures to ensure retailers reflect levy cuts at the pump, or if this will be energy credits again

What’s the bets that the reduction in excise tax will be eaten up by price increases by the oil companies?
The only way out of this is to accelerate our efforts decarbonise our energy production.Â
