From the author, Borys Krimer: “This is a painful story for me about a city that no longer exists. We visited Mariupol a few months before the full-scale war, knowing almost nothing about it, and the city impressed us — striking architecture, a sizeable old town, vibrant renovations, interesting places, museums, promenades, the sea, and beautiful shores outside the city.

Mariupol is a city of Ukrainian warrior spirit and Ukrainian tragedy. It is a city destroyed by Russians, where thousands of people were killed, tens of thousands were forced to relocate, and many continue to suffer under occupation. It was incredibly painful for me to edit this video; I worked on it for several months, only a few minutes at a time. I still do not know whether it was the right decision to publish a video that mostly shows a calm, peaceful city last autumn — a city that no longer exists. But I wanted to preserve that Mariupol, at least for myself. So here it is.

The video also uses photographs of Mariupol taken during the full-scale war. The authors of the photos are credited on the images themselves. Most of them were published on the Telegram channel of the Mariupol City Council.

We are paying an enormous price for this war, and our future victory requires the participation of all of us. Support the army.”
