I guarantee the owner told people “he wouldn’t hurt a fly”

    >Police officers could not get to Mr McColl, so firearms officers attended and shot the dog nine times with a pistol and once with a shotgun, the court heard.

Pit mums on facebook will read this and go “yeah but chihuahua statistically have more instances of attacks!” as if a chihuahua bite is on par with a dog that requires a shotgun to put down.

You can say “its the owner not the dog” all you like (I don’t buy it what so ever these dogs clearly have a fucked up temperament), but just in sheer power these things are beyond what your average joe, never mind the crackheads who always seem to buy them, can possibly handle.

    > John McColl died from his injuries a month after the dog attack.

That should really have been in the headline. The owner should be charged with manslaughter.

“The police murdered my sweet girl Cthulhu the World Eater, who would never hurt a fly. I can’t believe how this happened.”

Something clearly isn’t working, even with the legislation around these dogs. Its about time we have a serious discussion about seizing every XL bully and having them put down. No exemption certificate, a total ban unless there is a very good reason why one is need (perhaps some kind of study/science/etc).

Yes you get nice ones, my neighbor has an XL bully that is lovely, but you can see the sheer power of these dogs and if it took a turn then there would be no controlling it. When you look into the genetics of these dogs, many are from fighting lines, and because breeding standards have been so poor then the temperament of the dogs leans towards aggression.

For example, look at Killer Kimbo, which is a notorious inbred dog which many XL bullies in the UK decent from. This dog was deliberately inbred to make it more muscular, and produced much more aggressive and violent offspring as a result. I advice you all to look Killer Kimbo up, some great articles that go into details much better and in more depth that my comment.

Headlines like this are going to keep happening until the government say enough is enough and totally outlaw owning these dogs.

I bet the dog was called something like Princess or Buttercup.

  6. Of all the possible dog breeds there are, I really don’t understand why anyone would choose this one.

if not banning the dog, at least force the owners to follow some kind of course and hold them accountable to harsher penalties

Imagine when younger you think of how your life is going to be. Then you get older and consider how you might die, I don’t think being killed by a freaking beast that belongs in a horror film would be one of the ways you think of.

It guarded him like prey because to that thing he was prey. Why not live with a lion, same thing really.
