Several drones entered Estonian and Latvian airspace from Russia on Wednesday morning, authorities said, adding that there were no injuries.
A drone that authorities said they believe mistakenly entered from Russia hit the smokestack of the Auvere power plant, Estonia’s public broadcaster ERR reported, citing the security services agency KAPO.
State Prosecutor General Astrid Asi said the drone was not directed at Estonia and the investigation will clarify the specific circumstances.
Latvia also reported that a drone entered its airspace, crashed and may have exploded near the border with Russia, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defense.

Anyway. What sort of drones? Recon or attack? Were they Russian or entering from Russian airspace? Were they piloted, autonomous or pre-targetted? There’s a lot here to unpack, and for one I am not giving up my personal data to bypass this stupid paywall. Can anybody else fill in the details for the rest of us?

A drone hit crucial infrastructure? In a country a thousand miles from the front line? Next to a town that a Russian minister has said on record should be invaded? Yes, “accidental” sounds about right.

This is an estonian airspace.
Russia using the Iran conflict to escalate it’s asymmetric war against Europe.
Regardless of whose drone this was, it’s very concerning that our eastern border is apparently _still_ entirely transparent to drones. Apparently there is no detection until it is too late, and no countermeasures. How is that possible?! Are we really just entirely defenseless if Russia _does_ launch a massive drone attack?!
