Turns out that when you change the plan during construction, delays happen

BAM, and your money’s gone.
And you have no idea when you will get your completed hospital.

For some reason when I was scrolling I thought the headline was about Bam Margera not meeting his mam, April.

This isn’t really a problem. All they need is another 15-20 billion euros of taxpayers money and they’ll get back on track. No worries

Late AND over budget is an incredible feat. Can’t think of many that can pull it off. Hats off to all involved, a great team effort.

By the time this is built every child on earth will be an adult, even the ones that aren’t born yet

At the rate they are going will need an Adult hospital to treat all those kids that would have been treated in that hospital if it was built on time…

This was doomed to failure from the start as the government never fully specified the requirement when initially put out to tender. A friend of mines company refused to provides sensible quote for the air handling requirement because it was inadequately specified (they did quote but at a price that was never going to fly) He knew it would overrun by a long margin and he would be involved in fight after fight for money. He decided they should concentrate on data centres and the like and let his competitors get tied up in knots on this.
I have no idea who this BAM crowd are but if the rest of the hospital was as poorly specified then you can see why the overrun happened. That said they took the contract and thus are equally culpable. Harris should be thrown out on his ear for this and BAM barred from any future infrastructure projects.

This has taken so long that the trendy architecture that made it so expensive is now tacky and outdated. A monstrosity.

I am sure BAM have cast iron receipts for all their delays, otherwise contracts would penalise them.
So the fault lays with the HSE no matter how you look at it, shoddy loose initial contract and/or the 1000s of changes to the plans which BAM can point to whenever there is a delay.

If we actually had some political accountability Harris would be sacked and voted out for such eye boggling incompetence to begin with

Pretty sure this the Irish equivalent to Basílica de la Sagrada Família; they’ll still be building it in 140 years.

This is BAM, so why is this news.
The fact the fuck over subcontractors to the point of not paying them and threatening them with court should be what’s spoken about. They literally have the name “THE SUBBY BUSTERS”.

Worst thing is that these jokers can’t even be blacklisted from government contracts going forward

All we can hope for at this stage is that it’ll help sick children. It looks incredible and ambient and not like our typical death trap hospitals that are so unapproachable. I hope this place goes on to help poor little babies and children for decades to come and heal their issues. I hope it’s staffed with honest skilled and wonderful doctors and nurses who can fix scoliosis issues and operate and help sick poor little kids. I hope the 3 or 4 billion or whatever will help even save one little kid and let them have the joys of Christmas and comfort of their parents hugs. If 4 billion even saves one little soul and let’s them live a fruitful life then in my eyes it’s worth the 4 billion. Their is no price on life saving procedures for little children. I think that over 10 years, 20 years and 50 years this place will create so many memories for people, of course some will be sad and well we hope mostly happy times. Long live this “monstrosity” and let it turn in to a saviour for the children of Ireland 🇮🇪

I live relatively near the site. There’s very few workers on it these days and those that you do see are small, domestic contractors doing odd jobs like little bits of wire for lighting, taking their sweet time.
You never see an actual BAM employee, they’re all lads in white vans, smoking weed, getting paid handy money.
