>Sébastien Lecornu announced on Wednesday additional orders for munitions by 2030 amounting to 8.5 billion euros, as part of [the update of the military programming law (LPM)](https://www.bfmtv.com/economie/entreprises/defense/36-milliards-d-euros-en-plus-pour-le-budget-des-armees-d-ici-2030-emmanuel-macron-demande-que-l-actualisation-de-la-loi-de-programmation-militaire-soit-adoptee-d-ici-au-14-juillet_AV-202601150492.html) which will be examined in Parliament in May-June.
>***”The urgent issue is obviously ammunition. We plan to invest an additional 8.5 billion euros in orders between 2026 and 2030, which is in addition to the 16 billion euros of the LPM voted 2023. It is essential. And (…) it is colossal,” the Prime Minister stated before the National Assembly, opening a debate without a vote on the crisis in the Middle East.***
>The updated Military Programming Law (LPM) will be presented to the Council of Ministers on April 8, then submitted to the National Assembly the week of May 4 and to the Senate the week of June 1, he specified. It “will thus have allocated four times the financial effort to munitions compared to the previous one,” emphasized the head of government, who will soon inaugurate a new production plant in Essonne capable of producing “thousands of drones per month.”
>Sébastien Lecornu also announced the creation of a platform called “France Munitions,” which will be “a munitions wholesaler” to meet the needs of the French armed forces, allied countries, and export clients, financed both “by the State and by private investors,” as well as a €300 million support plan for the “dual-use” (civilian and military) industry. The Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with several ministers at Matignon on Thursday to review the “war economy.”
>**A “new ‘national security alert’ regime”**
>The updated LPM also provides for a “new ‘national security alert state’ regime (…) which will allow, in the event of threats and when circumstances require it, the temporary adaptation of our rules to accelerate decisions, simplify procedures, and remove the obstacles which are currently slowing down the conduct of our strategic projects,” he stated.
>This exceptional application regime of the defense code aims, in the event of a serious threat, to derogate for example from the standards (strengthen the security perimeter of sensitive sites; facilitate the storage of munitions/fuels) or even to facilitate the deployment of armed forces on the territory (accelerate the construction of additional camps and logistical infrastructure; derogate from the rules of heavy goods vehicle traffic to increase military mobility), Matignon explained.
>The Prime Minister also stated that [Iran’s statements on Tuesday regarding the possibility of “non-hostile” ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz](https://www.bfmtv.com/economie/international/l-iran-autorise-l-acces-au-detroit-d-ormuz-pour-les-navires-non-hostiles-les-cours-du-petrole-chutent-de-pres-de-6_AD-202603250094.html) , through which a fifth of the world’s oil production normally passes, were “perhaps a sign of a change of phase in this crisis” but that it was necessary to “remain vigilant, cautious to say the least, as the most contradictory statements have been coming one after another almost without respite for three weeks.”
>***”We must do everything we can to ensure that this traffic crisis does not become a production crisis,” he added.***

France travail, France libre, France munitions, it really keeps going on…
Something that really pisses me off about this kind of stuff is that it shows that when the various nations take a threat seriously, the money taps open.
The response to stuff like climate change is muted by comparison – obviously we need a military capable of defending ourselves, but apparently when the threat is tangible, they can move mountains for it.
When it’s a creeping existential threat, they leave it for the next generation to solve.
