Unfortunately the news article is in Finnish, so here is a summary of the key points in English.
The Supreme Court has fined Member of Parliament Päivi Räsänen (Christian Democrats) for incitement against a group of people. Bishop Juhana Pohjola, representative of the Finnish Luther Foundation, was also charged with incitement against a group of people. He was also fined.
>Supreme Court: Räsänen insulted homosexuals as a group
>The Supreme Court notes that, among other things, Räsänen had stated in her writing that homosexuality is a disorder of psycho-sexual development and characterized homosexuality as a sexual deviance.
>The Supreme Court finds that, in these instances, Räsänen’s statements insulted homosexuals as a group on the basis of their sexual orientation. However, not all passages from the text cited in the indictment are considered insulting.
>According to the Supreme Court, the conduct of Räsänen and the representative of the Finnish Luther Foundation met the criteria for incitement against a group of people, and deeming the conduct punishable was not in conflict with the freedom of speech or religion guaranteed by the Constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights.
>The Supreme Court orders that certain passages be removed from the text made publicly available by Räsänen on her Facebook page, on the internet, and on the Pohjola website.
Nothing better to cloud the mind than a bit of religion.
While I’m for gay people to live the way they want, I don’t believe that she was inciting as there wasn’t a call for action, but rather personal beliefs as far as I know. If there was some violent rhetoric, she should be punished.
Maybe she should go complain more to the Trump administration.
