Croatia was member number 28. I think the next number should be 29.

From the article, Montenegro likes #28, because they aim to be “28th by 2028” (after applying in 2008) but, in a good natured way, they’re willing to share 28 with Iceland IF the Nordic country’s previously suspended application is resumed and fast-tracked that they end up joining at the same time.

Breaking up with Serbia in 2006 could finally pay off, EU-wise, for Montenegro (pop. 600k+), as Serbia may not ever be in the EU, or it’d be 2040 or something.
