      I’m not saying this should be a high priority but Herzog was a colonialist and we are allowed to honour and revisit the honour we give to people from history as we like. Israel is colonialism. And we are awake to that now. But there’s no hurry. Id much rather get decent sanctions up and running than target a parks name.

      It feels wrong on many levels. I get the current politics, but what Herzog went on to do as a Dublin lad was clearly notable and for an, at the time, desperately lost people. We’re confusing politics with history.

      This is only a good idea if you don’t give a crap about the Irish Jewish community and/or want to put them in their place. It can only be interpreted by them as an attack on their community and an attempt to erase and dishonour the part their community played in the city’s history. It would also play into the hands of Israelis, who already do all they can to slander Ireland and spread the lie that Irish people are antisemitic. The people of Gaza deserve and have received in abundance the support of the Irish people, support they’ve gratefully acknowledged. Renaming a suburban park, which until five minutes ago nobody outside D6 had even heard of, does them no good whatsoever. Performative, activism for the sake of it, nonsense.

      Maybe we just shouldn’t name things after people in general since nobodie is black and white 🤷.

      Just name places after animals or call it district something park. Job done, no one offended, life goes on same as it did yesterday.
