I timori dello zero netto sono la “prossima Brexit” poiché la crisi petrolifera alimenta il divario climatico politico

Easy problem to solve. Bring down energy bills by 2028 using renewables.
Oil price rockets. “Alternatives to oil are bad”.
Make it make sense.
If you flood the poorly educated with soundbytes they want to hear, focused on lying for immediate gain, those people will gladly vote for politicians who will destroy their lives in the long run. That is the lesson of Brexit. That is how populism works. If you think ‘it can’t happen here’, think again. The US voted for a second term for Trump and other populists are winning elections all over the world. It can happen here.
Brexit voters didn’t suddenly ‘wake up’ or learn a lesson from Brexit. They are still out there, with the same cognitive impairments, sense of self-entitlement and short term thinking, waiting to vote for more policies and charlatans that will bite them, and all of us, in the ass.
How anyone can look at the current world situation and the prices at petrol stations and not conclude that we need to transition away from fossil fuels is absolutely beyond me.
The mess we’re in is exactly because we’re reliant on oil and gas from unstable parts of the world. We have to change that, not double down on it.
Plus look at the media outlets and billionaires who push this line, they profit from the status quo, we certainly do not. Just like brexit, foreign money wants us to act against our own interests.
We need to move away from fossil fuels. As soon as possible. We cant be held to ransom by energy prices every time some old greedy politician or business leader wants to feel powerful and/or make themselves a load of money by fucking with our energy supply.
Its clear we cant trust the rest of the world for our energy needs, and we therefore must find a way to become entirely self sufficient for our energy needs. That means renewable/nuclear energy approaches.
Oil companies would rather us be beholden to American foreign policy and oil prices.
Kindly, piss off
Get some modern nuclear power online.
They have cheap energy for tesla cats.
Why can’t they have an oap electric heating tariff? Get them off gas altogether?
The re-branded UK Independence Party wants us to be completely dependent on foreign oil and gas.
I’m sure it’s only because they have our best interests at heart and there aren’t any [other reasons](https://www.desmog.com/2024/06/04/nigel-farage-reform-uk-party-2-3-million-fossil-fuel-interests-climate-deniers-polluters-since-2019-election/).
So what we’re saying is that there’s a cabal of politicians, media outlets and business interests in this country that trade in exploiting ignorance and stupidity to whip up support for measures that harm the majority and benefit the few?
Mind numbingly stupid.
The cost of a *single* fuel crisis costs the UK more then the cost of net zero.
In a just world fossil fuel execs would all be rotting in prison.
Here’s a revolutionary idea, why don’t we produce the oil and gas we need domestically then reduce its usage as alternatives grow to replace the requirements instead of simply shutting down oil and gas production to meet the yearly targets that the replacements aren’t being kept to
We can have our cake and eat it
If you claim the planet is dying anyways then surely it’s better to do this in a measured way limiting damage to countries while we look for solutions such as investing in space technology to try to expend the species across the galaxy and leave the dying planet instead of just shutting everything down to delay the inevitable
Chernobyl set us all back to the fossil fuel stone age. We ignored nuclear for too long
The same moron who fucked up UK with Brexit will try to do the same by going against net zero
THeir millionaire leader will make tons of money in the process, though. Same as with Brexit
Net zero the next Brexit ?
Of course it is. I am actually a Remainer but if there was a majority in favour of leaving the EU but the government was taking no notice of the people that’s ***exactly*** the same as the net zero policy*. Polls have shown that although people may say they approve of net zero when it actually comes to stuff which directly affects them they aren’t (but the government presses on regardless) :
[https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/53366-how-far-does-the-public-support-net-zero](https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/53366-how-far-does-the-public-support-net-zero)
Only 46% agree with higher taxes on flying, only 31% agree with banning gas boilers, only 30% agree with the ban on petrol/diesel cars, only 25% agree with taxes to discourage meat consumption, and only a paltry 15% agree with new taxes on gas bills.
* and default 20mph limits, and LTNs and reducing the drink drive limit and fines for taking kids out of school etc etc etc
Majority care more about there bill being high than climate change.
Really needs to be a narrative change, people need to know that in 5, 10, 20 years time there bills will be x% lower and the switch to renewables will be worth it.
If it was next brexit then farage would be agreeing with it 😂
I have solar panels and they’ve reduced my bills and let me charge my car for very little. I’m obviously still reliant on the grid but my reliance is less so. If everybody had access to renewables then the grid would have less burden to bare and we could all save some money. Renewables are good and I’m sick of having to hear about fossils being the only solution. Realistically we need a mix of both until nuclear fusion is viable.
Fauxrage needs an enemy to get people angry about, to keep the grift going. It’s clear that if we were using more renewable energy we wouldn’t be as concerned about external energy shocks caused by authoritarian morons, but since Fauxrage loves authoritarian morons, and takes money from oil companies, it’s in his interest to rail against anything that makes them less relevant.
The only people who think that transitioning from fossil fuels (expensive, polluting, reliant on awful regimes in Russia and the ME) to renewables (clean, cheap, homegrown) are those in the pocket of oil companies (Reform), or people who dont understand basic science and economics (Reform supporters)
Fears “net zero” is the “next Brexit” from people who thought Brexit would be a good idea?
Net zero helps insulate us against the worst of oil price rises, but only if we decouple energy prices from oil/gas pricing when feasible to do so.
I’d argue we are about there now given the split of energy generation today, but we need a more stable fallback.
The reality is net zero equipment (heat pumps, solar, battery storage and EVs) are still too expensive for a lot of people. Renters will never fork out for solar or battery storage if they can’t take it with them, unless there are guarantees on the tenancy length.
Net zero skeptics are the paid for climate skeptics who can no longer deny climate change is a myth.

News has changed from being against the former and now talk about the latter.
Hold on a second, shouldn’t we cancel the last mistake before going ahead with the next one? Then again there’s more mistakes than this made by Labour, like awarding Palantir no-bid contracts for our critical infrastructure or enforcing identity checks for access to technology.
Trying not to poison the planet equal to self sabotage movement only made possible by fraud (falsely promised NHS funds and other campaign lies) and bigotry (wah wah foreigners). How?
Just like with the immigration “debate”, the only political divide being generated is the constant stream of misinformation and rhetoric from right-wing media.
Constantly over-inflating statistics and ignoring any positives from both situations in a bid to cause mass panic and hysteria.
And just like Brexit I didn’t vote for the Oil Crisis…
I’m so tired of stupid people getting to have an opinion on things.
