❝Switzerland ordered some Tomahawks years ago. Now the US said they can’t deliver them.

So Switzerland said then we won’t pay.

The US have now seized the funds we paid for the F-35s (which we probably won’t get as well) instead.❞

“Trust in the USA is suffering”
The development has been poorly received in parliament. “It’s infuriating when we halt payments and then the money is simply diverted,”

It’s for Patriot missile systems, not tomahawks. Still awful.

doesn’t the article say its about patriot, not tomahawks?

  4. Patriot – not Tomahawk… two quite different missile systems.

Pretty sure Switzerland has some US funds in their banks as well

  6. What the hell is this translation? I was confused about when and why Switzerland would possibly buy Tomahawks and the article never mentions Tomahawks at all but Patriots, which makes just so much more sense.

TBH this is how a company on the verge of bankruptcy acts.

  8. IRIS-T and SAMP/T might not be as good as Patriot when it comes to ballistic missile defence, but they work good enough against drones and aircraft and medium range missiles and they are made in Europe.

Why doesn’t seize Switzerland Trumps’s accounts?

I can see this happening with Australia’s submarine money

Other countries are starting to diversify away from US weapons and munitions.

Poland is producing Korean K239 under license instead of US HIMARs because SK is willingly to do a production license meanwhile the US does want to do it, in spite of them not even being able to build the number that Poland wants anyway.

Norway looked at this crap and decided to go for K239 from the start. They signed a contract to buy missiles from the Polish-Korean joint venture that is producing missiles inside of Poland.

Honestly I do not have the words to describe the modern US. They are beyond irrational. Why should we work with them when we can make our weapons, buy from EU allies or buy from nations with common sense like South Korea.

I know most about the Polish program. Most of the long term Polish procurement from the USA is just helicopters and aircraft. Meanwhile artillery/tanks/MLRS is all short term US equipment purchases as a stopgap while also buying Korean equipment and starting to produce Korean equipment under license. We badly need a european alternative to F35. Relying on american maniacs is just not sustainable.

Switzerland getting a taste of their own medicine after banning other countries from shipping equipment to Ukraine. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer country.

Ça ne serait pas arrivé si la suisse avait acheté des grippen ou des rafale. Il est difficile de lutter en respectant les règles avec les USA puisqu’ils les réécrivent constamment et leur lobbying est diablement efficace

  14. All Switzerland needs to do is start the procedure to seize the money American billionaires have in Swiss banks. The missiles and planes will be delivered next week with 50% discount and a public apology.

  15. Fake news. Don’t propagate fake news…

Switzerland ordered patriot systems, not tomahawks.

The US has notified of a delay, not that “they can’t deliver them”. It‘s normal for delays to occur, especially when other conflicts arise and delivery priority change, as outlined in the arms sales contracts…

EU membership looking fine right now, rich kids

It sounds like this is contractually allowed:

“Whether it’s for the F-35 or the Patriot: all Swiss payments end up in this fund. If one project runs short of money, the US is allowed to access funds for other projects. That’s precisely what the US authorities are now doing: fighter jet money is flowing to Patriot.”

This is why Swiss should stop dragging feet and join EU. EU with more strong members will be stronger on global stage.
