      Before people start misundertanding. Collective protection is an addition to the regular asylum seeker rights. It’s not super common that Norway grants collective protection.

      Please read the text

      *The amendment means that men in the age group 18 to 60 are no longer covered by the scheme of collective protection, under which a temporary residence permit is granted based on a group assessment. Applications for protection will be processed individually. The immigration authorities’ practice shows that very few qualify for protection on an individual basis.*

      *The change will only apply to new applications and will not affect those who already have temporary collective protection in Norway, according to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. There will also be certain other exemptions.*

      Why were they even protected in general in the first place? Ukraine has been at war for four years and needs every soldier they can get.

      Let me repeat the “in general” part. There are of course exceptions to a general rule.

      Holy shit. Imagine trying to flee a war and you get rejected as a refugee because collective protection excludes your gender. Has everyone gone collectively mad? It is fundamental human nature to want to be ALIVE and NOT KILL OTHER PEOPLE

      Norway has conscription for all citizens between 18 and 44. For women that is for those born after 1996. Ukraine has for men, up to 60.

      Principally harboring them then is unreasonable, especially when requested by Ukraine. Note also that it is no civil war, but a war against an aggressor.

      The duty to defend one’s society is not much different from the duty to pay taxes….
