    1. I am Slovak living in north Italy for 5 years – and it is like the people are much nicer, I can trust them more, and even if the bureaucracy is likely similar, I think it works better (and some hospitals are world class, like Gemelli). I had the same feeling in Spain. In both ITA and SK countries is valid that if you want something quick you pay for private or expedited intervention.
The big factor is also eastern culture of faking everything – it does not mean everybody is like that, and there are not cases in Italy, just the perception of percentage how often you get negative experience.
I would definitely not prefer US healthcare system.
The Universities in CZ are certainly in general better than SK, and when someone returns to SK with foreign experience is just a benefit compared to limited local options. Historically SK people always had to travel far to be famous and rich, except for communism and brief period of years 2000-2020 when economy thrived.

Hi, I haven’t seen the documentary. But I personally lost hope that our country will be successful Democracy as people for long time vote primary for populist parties (Meciar, Fico, Matovic). Mostly our politicians are very corrupt.
I feel everything that is managed by Fico and his company (before that was Meciar) have only one motivation to earn money for them and don’t care about any impact.
You mentioned healthcare, but also Police is now blind, education is underfunded for many years. About 1/3 of students who wants to study on universities are moving to Czech republic and never return. Then when we talk about politics what is left in rural parts, are many times people afraid of change and full of hate (feeling abandonned).
Most politician now are incompetent populist, what they touch they f***k up, but they present like they are best in the world. Protectors of standard values and family.
Highway construction and railways, … are in very bad stage … Without EU this country would collapse, .. Culture institution are destroyed, national TV is a joke now, …

And for the healthcare I will just tell short story. It was like 10 years ago, but it would be same now, or even worse. I was helping in a small company with IT, and they had university students working for them. One of the guys got some infection in eye and he was loosing sight. After some investigation, local MD say they cannot help, but there is one specialized medical workplace that could help. But off-course the waiting line was 6 month. Everyone tried to help called every connections that they had, offered money as this is how it works, they put you on so long waiting list, that you could even die.
after one or two week he managed to get termin there and there did help, but it was too late he did permanently lost about 60% of his sight because it was too late, just few day sooner would help. 🙁

      Everyone was totally sad.

Country in witch people lost hope that it will be good place to live, is dying country.
